I've got one coming with all 3 adapters, probably can find uses for the other adapters as I experiment with them; might just have to have a custom adapter made for other uses. It's amazing how cheap they can produce those adapters for; we couldn't get the bare metal for that price.

I have seen your nice presentation of your RPL 400 fitted with a Melles Griot 3x B.E. (good work, your adapter); it could be nice to see how the DL B.E. (10x) works on your RPL! Let me know if you'll decide to manufacture a custom adapter for the job.... :)
 
Yes that is exactly what I had in mind, I'll put the DL BE on my Nova for sure, but I was hoping it would also fit my RPL Adapter; sounds like it won't, so another custom adapter is probably going to have to be fabricated to use the DL BE on the RPL, we'll see.

But the first measurement without the BE was at 4" not 25".
Would that not also make a difference?
Shouldn't the 2 measurements be taken from the same distance?
Just curious :-?
 
should not make a difference as long as the beam diameter is the same..... distance only effects mw per cm[sup]2[/sup]

With a beam expander you can do burning tricks at much farther distances than without the expander. As an example my DIY labby that can light matches at 5 feet max can light matches at over 20 feet with my makeshift beam expander setup. $75 is probably worth it to someone who bought a green laser mainly for burning.

Windstrings has a video somewhere where he popped a balloon from 150 feet with a beam expander on his 300mW Herc.[/quote]


Watch the video. ;) You can decrease the divergence by a factor of ten, witch will increase the range by a factor of ten. :D
thats .2 mrad. ;D I need to find a a way to fit one of these things on my BR and get .01 mrad. ;D

Actually it shouldn't affect it at all, as you said, "distance only effects mw per cm2" , so total mW should remain constant. :P
(I'm sure atmospheric junk in that tiny distance is neglijable)

true true : ) i was thinking that their was only a certain beam diameter that could be registered .... witch is kinda true as it has to be smaller then say 10cm

Well of course you can't measure it if the dot is bigger than the sensor head, that kinda goes without saying. ::)
 
I'll be ordering the beam expander next week, so expect Spartan BP pics and possible vids in around three weeks or so...
