Dragon Lasers 589nm 50mw Handheld

Here is the LPM reading from my 589. It peaked at 92 mw in the first 25 seconds and sloped down to 38mw after 90 seconds. It did stabilize in the mid 40mw range when I stopped the test and restarted another LPM test. It pretty much performs like my other 589 50mw, up and down in power, but that is to be expected. Also, here are a few pics of multiple 589 lasers. The first one has two Spartan 50mw's and a 5mw Spartan in the center. The second pics is the two 589 50mw with a 473nm in the center. I get the impression that the LaserBee is not as accurate as the Ophir. I have no way of knowing if my Ophir is properly calibrated but I would bet it is close. Seems my testing compared to one other person using a Laserbee is about 10-12mW higher on measured output. This would be in line with your results above. Anyone with any thoughts or knowledge of the Ophir compared to LaserBee?

There is always going to be a massive difference between a properly calibrated ophir head and a laserbee with a wafer thermopile due to response time. The ophir has a response time of under a second whereas the LB has a response time of 35-40 seconds. So by the time you have finished your test the sensor may not have even had enough time to respond fully.
LB's aren't really the best LPM to use on lower powered DPSS lasers just due to their tendency to be not as stable. I suggest anyone that doesn't have an ophir to send their dpss lasers to someone who does to do their tests as they won't be accurate on the LB's.

I got my Laserbee recalibrated and the sensor recoated about a year ago by Laserbee, so I would hope it would still give me accurate measurements. Since the unit was recallbrated, I tested my lasers once and tested new ones I got in the past year. So it has not been used that much. For my purposes, the unit I have does the job.

When Busman2 comes over with his Spartan i'll get him to bring his LB with him and we'll do some side by side tests.
In reality a dpss laser is not stable. It shouldn't have a straight curve like shown on the LB, it should be alot more up and down.

Because the response time is slow it doesn't actually realistically show what is happening with the output.

Hey Jeff, I don't have any experience with the LB, but I have an Ophir that I'll check mine with, when it arrives, and compare the output with your readings.
 
got some time late last night to try the 589 out. fog machine and diffraction grating used. I say the color is gold

I have been following this thread and the photos are truly awesome. I am sooo jealous as this is the one color I don't have. Jmiller has produced an excellent group buy and as flawless as one of these things can be. Maybe, if there is a round two, and all the hype about prices on these going up doesn't pan out, I may get in on the next one. Kudos!
 
Know what you mean as I have a large quantity of units but no 589nm;(
Been off work for 3 months now due to a shoulder injury that I just had surgery on Thursday and will be in a sling an unable to move it much for 2 weeks and then probably months of rehab. Unfortunately it's my right arm and I'm right handed.
Anyways, nice to see so many getting to own a 589:)
 
I am going to lay off GB's for a month or so but this (589) will likely be the next one I do if there is enough interest. Both of my first 2 GB's went well not because of me, it has everything to do with the companies we did business with. Kudos to Adam at DL and Mimi at Goldenstar.

The last few should be receiving theirs early this week. Tracking numbers by request on the final shipment. Just FYI, they went out on Sat and I believe they were all going to be within two days. That means Tuesday everyone who has paid should have their's.
 
I HIGH suggest getting in on this GB of you have the funds. The laser is amazing has a flawless tem00 beam and is over spec. And its dirt cheap for a 589nm laser. If you pass th is up you'll end up paying 700+ when DL stock runs out. Probably $1000 actually.

Didn't realize th is GB was done. Someone should do another while we can.

Kudo`s to Jmillerdoc for all his work. They look really nice. I'm jealous. I'm slapping myself for not getting in on it. Hopefully he does another one.
I hope everyone enjoys them and posts lots of pics :)
 
I received my little beauty in the mail today, all boxed up and arriving safe and sound! :)
First order of business, drop a fully charged 18650 in it, (pos. end toward the tailcap!) hit the switch, and watch the flow of sweet golden light!
It works as advertised; nice visible beam, nice round dot, but as others have noticed, it does warm up pretty quickly.

I was able to get my front piece off without too much effort, but as Sigurthr mentioned, there was some of the white potting compound on the threads.
The B.E. screwed right on with no problems. I haven't had a chance to try it out with the B.E. on yet.

I have noticed that mine will only take unprotected cells; at least without a whole lot of force on the already shakey tailcap threads.

Another very big thanks to Jmillerdoc for a 2nd superb G.B. :beer:

P.S. - If there is another D/L 589 G.B. in the future, I'd highly recommend taking part in it!

Mine runs on IMR and ICR cells. Weird yours doesnt. Does your ICR not have a button like mine? That could be why if your tail cap lead is recessed a bit.
