I have no idea about this iron. Hot air rework station is something I've yet to learn about. Not sure how it works. Looks good though, and it is very good price. Not sure if this post helps, but all I can say is that I hope you know what's best for your application.
Definitely would recommend one that is ESD safe, to prevent static discharge from your iron to your precious diodes
Also, unless you're doing SMD work, the rework station isn't entirely necessary (although it is handy for heatshrinking!). I just got a rework station and haven't used it a lot yet, but the times I have I've not done so good with it :-[ So, it'll certainly take some practice to use it well.
Also, the one I bought, an Aoyue 968, has the vacuum fume extraction... it's really nice!
