I know nothing about lasers, so can I at least get a yes or a no?[/quote]

It works long enough to kill your diode.

Peace,
dave

I'm sure anything is possible you first need to do a lot of reading on here experiments and modification threads theres enough info there to drive you mad make your own laser any way possible just about :o

It works SOMETIMES but really its almost always gonna kill the diode. :P
You NEED current regulation because diodes don't work like light bulbs. ;) They have very little internal resistance so when you hook up the batteries like kipkay did they will put WAY to much current and once its dead its DEAD forever.

Simply put: your laser diode will die MUCH faster without any regulation. ;)

Yes, it will almost always die in <5 secs but every diode is different.
