Do you carry your laser as self defense at night?

I have one of those cylindrical keychain lighters, not sure where to buy them from though :/

They are about as big as your keychain greenie :)

^^^I think it's not so much the size as the shape that bugs me. That and reliability. Everything that I use has to be reasonably reliable. The lighters I've used in the past, zippo aside, always fail. Forget about windproof:( Best option IMO are the blazer torches, but they are way too big, even for my pockets:(

I've been thinking of trying this out: ThinkGeek :: FireStash Keychain Lighter

But while I like small... I don't particularly want TINY.

I just carry an attack scrat

When I leave the house I usually carry a snub nosed .38 special, when I leave the city it's usually the Glack 10MM and a shotgun. i'll pit any of those against a laser any day! I have 1W blue lasr that I would use in the house but not outside.

Aurora Firesteel Firestarter < typical flint firestarter, more compact option

TiSurvival Titanium Fire Piston Fire Starter w/ Random Heat Anodized Finish - Blade HQ
This is just nifty. Still not entirely sure how it works, but it looks like you could run over it with a tank and still use it afterwards.

Say, anybody know where to find those handwarmers that you snap the little metal disk inside and it starts the precipitate reaction? I heard those are reusable, and was thinking about getting some. I think you just have to boil them clear.

I have a flint firestarter at home... far from keychain compact, but works rather well:p

About the fire piston, check out the secret santa thread, Moh bought gave, one, or got, one iirc and posted a bit about it.

What I'd really like is a compact blow torch... one of these has never failed me: Amazon.com: Blazer GB2001 Self-Igniting Butane Micro-Torch: Industrial & Scientific

Unfortunately it's far from small enough for pants pockets:(

Sometimes I still carry it as a lighter though... priceless when someone asks for a lighter and you put a 12" flame in front of them:p

(Sorry to add a break in the above conversation)

I kind of carry mine for defense. Over the past few months I've been developing some what of an EDC rotation. In my rotation I usually am carrying laser somewhere. I usually carry my Aurora C6 or LZPL from Lazerer. But I'd only ever use it in self defense if it was unfocused. I know that's still bad for the eyes, but I'd rather get hit by a 9mm than a missile...

You wouldn't carry one for the same reason you wouldn't carry a knife.

The only way to make it reasonably safe is not have a lens so it spreads out.

If it gets stolen with the lens and people start getting blinded; you'll be to blame.

..... but I'd rather get hit by a 9mm than a missile...

Ehm ..... there's not too much differences, at the end, if you get hit in the head from a missile, or from a 9mm bullet ..... (ok, ok, the size of the needed coffin, maybe, but at that point, i think you don't care about that, right ? :p :D )

Sorry, new to thread navigation... Somebody had a pic showing laser and pistol held cross handed such that, when fired the slide would kick back, probably causing injury to opposite hand.

If you carry a laser for self defense and use use it a screw up somebody's eye or eyes you will get sued. I carry a .40 cal Baby Eagle and I have a concealed weapons license. When you take your required course you are told shoot to kill, not wound. If you do wound someone it is your word against theirs, thus probably getting sued.
So carry a laser for elf defense I think not.

I carry an ultrafire502 for purposses of blinding, then either a tactical ancle knife or a 2.5'' quickdraw (usually both). Although, honestly, if I'm flashing a laser and throwing a mid-range roundhouse/sidekick/back-kick , and they dont have a weapon, I would put money on my safe escape. If they have a gun: I'm dead anyway. If they have a knife: Well, depending on the stance, if they have training I would blind and run, if they dont I would blind and kill.

But I digress.

Short answer: Sometimes. Not normally. it takes to long for my taste, to get out a laser and bring it on target. In that time I can have a knife out and two kick thrown.

Question: Does anyone know how/where I can build/buy a reliable folding batton? I live in MA, and its hard to ship them. I would prefer to make if possible.

Thanks!

I dont need a laser pointer. If someone tried to mug me, I'd just be like BWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH

I'm really liking that Spyderco....

Definitely one of my favorites. As an EDC it fit many of my personal criteria... relatively cheap, good steel, three inches, and the wharncliffe style blade.

The kershaw leek is a fair compromise which is a bit cheaper, but that steel is nowhere near as good.
