Hoping that some of my talent was transferred genetically to my daughter, I started asking her if she wanted to learn to play an instrument by the time she was 3 years old. At 5, in kindergarten, she asked if she could take piano lessons at the private school where I had her enrolled. Of course I said yes, but she didn't stick with it and later she admitted to me that she had done this in order to avoid nap time. I had already purchased a keyboard, amp and stool for her to practice. Then at age 7 she asked if she could learn to play the guitar, so I bought her a 3/4 size guitar and proceeded to teach her myself. But, unfortunately she still didn't stick with it. Then at age 12 she wanted to join the school band and we discussed which instrument she should take. I suggested the flute as I was a Jethro Tull fan and so she took the flute. But, this time I rented a flute for her. After she stuck with it for two years I bought her a silver plated nickel flute in a case. It was quite expensive, but I can't remember the brand. She ended up sticking with that for 5 years and can still play, though she doesn't much any longer. I guess she ended up with most of her mother's talent. She couldn't carry a note in a bucket.
