well, heres my order from futurlec, plz can someone check to see if its all correct?

DPDT101     DPDT on-off-on Miniature Toggle Switch  1  $0.90 $0.90

I think that switch wont be what you want.  It's a on-off-on which is a center off 3 position switch.

I think you want PN# DPDT11

You only connect to one side of it, so that when the "other side" is on, nothing is connected to it and it does nothing. :D
how hard is it to use these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...loc=closed_view_item&refwidgettype=osi_widget

also, is the rest of the order fine?

can I jsut use 1N914's instead of 1N914/1N4148 because I can find 1N914's everywhere, but I cant find 1N914/1N4148 anywhere
I don't think that DPM will work.. It's an LED DPM which means it will draw more current from the battery and it appears to require a separate 5 volt regulated power supply.

Your order looks okay 'cept for the switch.

A 1N914 is exactly the same as a 1N4148.  That's why it's pretty commonly referred to as a 1N914/1N4148.  Either will work.

I ended up competing with "TheMonk" (I recognized his ebay account) for this DPM:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...em=160204830504&_trksid=p3984.cTODAY.m238.lVI

I also contacted thier sales and got a different switch, the one you recommended. I also ordered thier 1N914's, which I did find to be the same as thier 1N4148's from thier datasheet.

thanks for the help, all I need now is the Thermopile, LED, Knob, and enclosure! thanks for helping me make this project a go!

amk

all the parts (excluding enclosure, thermopile, DMP, LED, and PCB) came out to around 10 bucks shipped from futurlec, I dont see why people would buy from radio shack...

How 'bout because it's a local business that employs local people? You can also have instant gratification by getting your parts in minutes rather than days. If we don't support the local businesses, they will go away.

I've got nothing against mail order but I like being able to get that part I need at a moment's notice...

you do got a point there, I still go there for electrical "stuff", jsut the DIY parts seem overpriced there. I will stil get my enclosure and LED's from them for this project for sure.

would a tec thermopile be useful for measuring laser power?
maybe if i put it on a heatsink and paint one side matte black.
I know it would be uncalibrated but would it work and be consistant

The PCBs for the second group buy just arrived (7:30pm) from UPS. I'll get them all mailed out tomorrow.

I just recieved a pm from roSSco, my thermopile sensors have been ordered (Big thanks to roSSco).

knimrod,

Can you put me down for 2 pcbs in the third group buy for the pcb?

Yes that would work. A small TEC thermal glued to a large piece of aluminium and painted with a mixture of varnish and activated charcoal is said to work.
I don't know about linearity but if you calibrate against known lasers or compare with a proper powermeter it would propably let you know pretty well what power a laser has.

Hi, my first post.
What do you think about a single supply op-amp like the OPA344?
