Hello again.. will this battery be alright for any diode in the driver? I mean, whether i am using bluray or high power red?

Hello again.. will this battery be alright for any diode in the driver? I mean, whether i am using bluray or high power red?

The Voltage Regulator controls the amount of voltage to the diode so even if it was 12v it would only get so much voltage. As for that battery 280mah isn't very much (which is it's capacity) & wouldn't have a long charge when operating the laser. You'll be hard pressed to find a 9v that has a larger mah. You want 2600mah or higher for longer life.

yesterday i changed 2x10ohms with 4.1ohm resistor.. which means max current output is some like 305mA .. now i wonder if this will be enough for the 22x dvd laser..

I just finished my laser using a 22x DVD diode & I switched out the 2x10 ohm resistors for a 3 ohm resistor. Having said that I tested the dvd diode using 250ma & it was ok but at 400ma it was truly more powerful & even lit a white match which wouldn't light at 250ma. So 305ma is only 55ma more I think you'll be happier at 400ma!

I know that the regulator will set the right value for me using the right value resistor and I know 280mAh is not much, unfortunatelly nobody sells these 9V rechargables anymore. I wanted 2 lithiums in a form of AA/14500 is the number i think.. but those would give me only 7.2V which is a low voltage for bluray diode.. i have a source of enough power at home, but i meant the laser to be more mobile.. and - forget to tell me anything about X number of AA/AAA batteries. - thats just too much space wasted

second post: I think 3ohms are for 20x diode, 22x should get more than 420mA.. i dont know the exact number but i would guess to use some like 2R5 resistor..
by the way.. i burned brown head matches with just 120mA 16x diode

Here's a place that sells 9v rechargeables

Rechargeable Batteries & Battery Chargers - Tenergy 9V 250mAh NiMH high capacity rechargeable Battery

Here's a list of lithiums:

All-Battery.com - Rechargeable batteries & Chargers - Li-Ion Cylindrical Rechargeable Batteries

AA14500

Rechargeable Batteries & Battery Chargers - 4 pcs of Li-Ion 14500 Rechargeable AA size 3.6V 800mAh with Tabs

If you order here, here's a coupon for free shipping "tenergydeals"

I also burned red match head at 125ma but not white.

I am going to buy those 9V from DX.. i dont need for it to last long.. and am going to make it so i can attach the flashlight case with my LD to the power socket..

OT .i bought samsung SH-223F for about 10€ from a local web auction.. because it was cheap and it was suppose to be 22x .. but when i opened it.. the sled was mostly plastic and the red diode was different looking. the pins were in the line.. not making a triangle.. it was partly some thin metal and part plastic and the whole body of the LD was a bit smaller than normal.. the pins fell off of it when i tried to unsolder a little PCB that was attached to the diode.. disappointment. Is there any list of dvdrw drives that use the "common type diode" that fits into the AixiZ housing? so far i harvested only 4 LG drives and this samsung

btw.. the IR LD in the samsung drive was the "chip type"..

again.. sorry for asking stupidly and thank you for any answer..

I have built 10 or so of these drivers and tweeked around with the schematics a bit , but have never got any more power from them than the simple use of the right batteries wired direct. The driver is safer if you don't have the proper multimeter to read milliamps and accurate voltage but for power a real dissappointment, at least when working with red diodes. Also have a good 10 diodes pulled from 20x dvd burners and with the instructions from all of these how to make a burning bla bla bla never got one to burn anything but itself. Your going to need a good set of glass lenses and they are going to cost more than all the stuff you have gathered up for your project. All of these how to's don't cover that , but for real have yet to see a single acrylic lens applied to a dvd diode that is any damn good for anything.

Could you tell me what the difference is between 1.5amps straight from a battery compared to 1.5amps through the driver? (I chose 1.5amps as the driver is capable of delivering that much).

Quick-side related question, whats the difference of using a 1N4001 Diode against a 1N4004 or a 1N4007 for the dummy-load test?

The three pins in a row are the IR. I know what your talking about I had extracted them myself. There is another diode in there that has the D shape.

i tried to turn it on before i take it apart.. and the red was definitely the one with 3 pins in a row..and i took apart the entire sled and found no D shaped diode.. in fact there was 1 this abnormal diode and 2 chip type diodes.. i was really surprised in a bad way.. never gonna buy another samsung drive..

Now Im completely confused all these variation of pots, resistors, and capacitors. After reading most of this post im confused on what parts i need for my driver. Im in high school and I dont know much about electronics so please help. I will be using this diode:
650nm 20x DVD Burner Laser Diode in Aixiz Laser Module Housing [LPC-815 in Aixiz module] - $22.38 : High Tech DealZ, Simplifying the LASER Hobby!

I want to run it safely so it will have some life.
So what parts do I need and is there a alternative to the 1ohm resistor for the test load

Thanks in Advance:thanks: This will be my first laser :lasergun:

I am way confused. How could you build this into a flashlight?
Are you supposed to add a spring or something?
It would be nice if someone could explain the WHOLE THING about making these into flashlights. And i mean EVERY little detail

Hey guys, first off great guide! However, I'm kinda new to all of this and ive run into a snag. I recently bought a 16X Sony DVD Diode pre-installed in an Aixiz housing. Ive set up this driver to a 'T' and when i hook up the pre-installed diode I get a very faint glow. However, when I hook up a diode that i extracted from a DVD burner to the exact same driver, it shines brighter than something I would want to look at :p. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Thanks.
