If I remember correctly voltage doesn't kill, its the current that kills.

I have always wanted to make one of these but the fear of shocking myself is a lot greater than the need to build one haha.
 





Or for some more fun.. get anything that can safely shock you (toy or whatnot) and a group of friends together. Have everyone touch each other to form a circle then have the ends touch one contact each. Everyone jumps!
 
hey could you make a tut for that...i guess that would be fun to hit my buddys with...i mean stun them not kill them
 
This is stupidly dangerous.

A real taser runs at few thousand volts at a fraction of a mA, these things are 300v at dozens of milliamps. These are significantly more dangerous than a taser, a taser is specifically designed to deliver a certain level of shock, they put a whole lot more effort into trying to make sure they're not lethal, and even then, sometimes they still are.

This is about as good an idea as walking around with a cut off extension cord, shocking people with 110v from the wall.

Uhh, other way around... For high voltage you'd want to be ungrounded. Thick rubber soled shoes and one arm behind your back.

One hand behind the back is what ive been doing since a 10kv 23mA hit that I took years back. Something tells me experiance has shown you the way ;)

I was also bit by a single 300v cap from a camera flash, which left its own nasty little burns :-/

OMC those are BIG capacitors....3900uF is a lot (for this type of DIY) :P



Wouldn't wanna stick my fingers near them (charged, of course...).
 
Hehe i tried building one of these... i added 3 more caps and i was able to make black burn marks on metal.
 
Back in junior high my science teacher showed us how to make pop-bottle capacitors. You basically fill a 2-liter bottle with water, cover the outside with foil, and then melt a paper clip through the cap so it goes in the water. Then you can charge it up by rubbing your feet on the ground and touching the top conductor. For fun you hold onto someone and touch the other person with the tip of the capactitor while holding it.

Anyway, she had a Van de Graaff generator in the classroom too. We used that to charge up the capacitors and POW! did they shock people. Hilarious stuff.
 
I hope no one seriously hurts themselves after reading this thread, those 3900uf caps would be enough to make your arm explode if you got across them fully charged.
someone said ma? these would be able to deliver a thousand amps or more instantly depending on how you got across them.

Big caps like those are quite deadly.  They can stop your heart. please do be careful.

heh take apart a disposable camera and look wher ethe button presses......it's just metal thats completes a cirutit.....just go ahead and use your finger to complete the circuit.

it hurts so bad!

electric fence don't even compare to it, it left burn marks on my finger and made my computer blue screen (this was around 6 or 7 years ago)......
 
its amazing realy that so many people start thier diy fondleings with these camera circuits, personaly i am using the transformers rather than the capacitors, as those things are brutal

Very correct.. Low current is the killer.. though I suppose super high voltage can kill.
