There is a coating on the back of the vanadate (nd:yvo4) that reflects 1064nm. Your output coupler reflects 1064 but passes 532. So your lasing cavity is formed by the coating on the back of the vanadate and the OC mirror. So before adding the ktp you have a 1064nm laser. The ktp is then placed inside the cavity, between the mirrors and doubles the wavelength. The 1064 that didn't get doubled continues to resonate, to maintain lasing, while the green is allowed to exit.
