Diode Testing With Adjustable PSU

Can I test diodes using an adjustable power supply unit? I have a blue ray diode ready for wiring here and seeing as I am at work and I think they have one can I test the diodes with it?

Just set the PSU to 5V, set the mA to 40 and slowly go up. In theory it would work, is it a bit risky though?

I just want to see what happens really, never seen a 100mW blue ray although I will probally stop at 100mA.

Will it be fine keeping it on while I do it? Or will I have to do it in cycles to let it cool down? The diode is only in a Aixiz module.

heat will be a problem if the diode isnt mounted in a heat sink

you could purchase one of the blu-ray drivers i currently have for sale in the buy and sell section

you'll want to be extremely careful to use some means of hooking up and discharging any spikes before hand. Some psu's will spike when you first hook something up to them.

I set my PSU to the MAX voltage I want. Then I short it out and set the starting current. Connect diode and start turning up the current.
