Digital Laser Breakthrough - LCD Screen Rather than Front Mirror

Your really finding some great new things in the laser world. Thanks for sharing your finds

It's cool, but it looks like they're just affecting the mode pattern on the output. Forming an image is a bit different. I don't know if the mode pattern is sufficient to apply something like a discrete cosine transform, in the manner that JPG blocks are generated, to produce an actual "image."

What would be truly amazing (and probably impossible) is if they could make some kind of LCD type crystal that goes in a laser diode that can be use to change the wavelength on the fly.

Wouldn't that only work if you had a true white diode? meaning the outputted light was comprised of every single wavelength of visible light..

Looks like they are shaping one of the "mirrors" to selectively reflect a pattern, almost as a guide, and the tube creates the lasing modes. Still, seems like someone would have tried this already.

When they manipulate for single mode, high power and zero beam divergence, I want one.
