Dell inspiron help pls...

I most certainly have :D Expensive hobby this.....

Update! My wife had her work laptop in the back of the car...same as mine! I whipped a RAM card out of it (she won't notice ::)) and it boots up....

Right, on initial start up everything seemed OK, I set the clock/date, Installed my wireless network adaptor. It asked for a restart.

Since the restart the cursor wanders all over the screen and automatticly hits buttons that it crosses :-[.....I am trying to connect to the web to see if there are any updates for it...trouble is I cannot configure the connection as I can never get to the button I want, any ideas?

Unplug the internal touch-pad and use a USB mouse.
Quite a few of the old Dell laptops I've used have mouses that wander to one side.
Not sure why it's clicking though, might even be a software issue.

You could try safe mode to check whether it's a software issue. Press F8 as soon as it starts to boot. Is there anything stuck under the mouse button holding it stuck down?

Hmmmmm....I realised the other thing I changed when i rebooted was that I plugged into the mains adaptor....I have since gone back to batteries and it seems to behave. This is looking like a temperature thing

This post tryped on my new laptop :) Getting there, It seems that this computer origionaly had XP on it but needed to be downgraded to w2000 prof to run a chemistry programme..... I was hoping that XP would still be on it somewhere but it seems not :-[

I'd just format it and install a fresh copy of XP, do you have a copy?

No I don't have a copy of XP, I had a look on ebay and I am not sure that I want to spend that much.

The fan underneath the laptop doesn't seem to be running which explains the heating problem, if I raise the computer up a bit it seems to run OK on the mains supply.
