If it still can't light it with a sharpied match while focused then your laser is probably around or less than 50mW...

Lol white head match COULD be he problem, that look pretty bright. Sharpie time.

And you may not be getting the focal point. But it shouldn't matter much with a match and 300mw. The white is definitely slowing you down too.

Yeah, the dot is pretty bright. Just a little concerned about the beam. It's invisible in sunlight, slightly visible in a moderately lit room, visible in a low light room, bright in the pitch black.

Which, of course, is how a laser should be. But just on that "beam shot" alone in the middle pic, you couldn't even see the beam. In person, there was a beam, but it wasn't by any means easy to see. :undecided:

And does anyone have anything on the effects cap, or was I correct in thinking I may have just gotten a broken one since it won't screw on to the main cap? I have to hold it to the end of the laser.

My effects caps wouldn't screw on my hl450 either when I had it. Bt they screwed on my hl532 fine. There must be different sizes of apertures and cap threads then.

Uh-oh, you may have a problem as my 50mw can be seen in broad daylight if you look really carefully...

Although you must be doing something wrong because even a 20mw green can light a sharpied match... as long as it is focused correctly...

Get it metered... I can do it for you if you want...

I just got back. A sharpied match did light, after being held in front of it for a timed 25 SECONDS.

My luck has been so insanely bad lately, I wouldn't be surprised if I got a poor laser. .-.

Edit: And that was with the match held about 1 - 2 inches from the cap of the laser.

Focus the laser all the way out ( as large of a dot as possible) and the focal point should be from 2-6 " in front of the laser. If its dark you should see where the beam been gets really thin. Try it at that point. I'm going to light a match with mine to see how long it takes.

You got to make sure you put it in the focal point (the thinnest part) I know when mine is focused all the way, the focal point is 5-6 inches out. Lights them instantly. As for the brightness, comparing it to my 1.6W 445nm and 115mw 532nm it blows both of them out of the water.


I would defiantly have a member meter it though just to be sure. If it is defective, i'm sure kevin will help you out.

Update: Okay guys, good news. When the matches were put in the focal point, the sharpied and white one both took only a few seconds to ignite.

Now, my only remaining concern is the lack of beam in light places. At night, it's incredible. But, then again, so is a 100mW at night. So, I guess the only thing left to do is get it metered? Or is there some form of test that can tell me if it's on spec?

That's pretty depressing. I've been waiting far too long for this damn thing. Now that it's finally here, I gotta ship it off again? xD

What do you think shipping to a town about 4 hours away will cost, versus shipping it to California? (About 2 hours from CA border)

Flaminpyro is about 4 hours away from me and may be kind enough to meter it, but above it was offered as well, if I shipped it to CA.


Edit: Much better idea. I have 5 ebay 532nm pens coming in about 1 - 2 weeks from now. Maybe I'll send them all off at the same time. That gives me time to mess with my laser for a little bit, and I can kill 2 stones with 1 bird.

My laser arrived today, (just woke up from 3 hours of sleep, so excuse me) and I have more complaints than I thought I would...

1. The effects cap appears to be damaged, as I can't screw it on to the existing cap.

2. The beam is visible in somewhat light areas.

3. I can't light a match, or put even a mark on paper. It DOES sting my skin after a few seconds.

4. The name on the laser shows "Xxcodydarnellxx". Not only is it not my actual name on the laser as I'd requested, but it makes my OCD crazy with it not even being my correctly capitalized username. One capital "X", and no caps in the actual name. *Shudders*

So, I guess my complaints really are an effects cap I can't use unless I hold it to the end of the laser, and I'm concerned this laser may be very underspec, if I can't light a match with it. The name thing I can get over.

Edit: When I say "slightly light" areas, I really mean "slightly"...

If you're able to request a new star cap for me, that would be awesome. It would make it a lot easier, than having to sit here and hold the cap to the end of the laser.

As far as the name on the sticker, I feel like it would do more damage than good for me to rip the current sticker off and replace it. Every sticker in the history of stickers leave sticky residue and sometimes a layer of white paper. My video game cases are all proof of that, ripping off Gamestop stickers. I can live with it. I'll just ignore the sticker, and my OCD will be okay.

And I intend to get it LPM'd along with some ebay lasers here in 1 - 2 weeks. I'll let you know then if it comes out to be on spec.

Edit: These batteries will go from a full 3 charges on my nitecore i4, to 5 minutes in my laser, to 1 charge in my nitecore i4. xD

Easy solution to sticker goo and paper. Go to walmart, buy a bottle of googone. Put a dab on a rag and rub over the affected area. The goo will come right off along with the paper. Done it numerous times, trust me I have goo/paper residue. Pisses me off just like you haha.

You might need to do a few times depending on how sticky or much paper there is. Another trick, for gamestop stickers or things that can get wet is run the paper area under water and rub with your finger. It will remove the paper easy and then use googone to remove the sticky. Just a few tricks I have picked up over the years

Hey man! If your cells read 4.2V when full they are ok! On the beam shot ir looks pretty bright but you never know. Let me know the lpm outcome and if bad the new cap canbe sent with the new laser!
