CLOSED! Now Distributing ROUND 2!: THE "Skylaser" (laserBtB) groupbuy!

My shipment was delivered (DHL) today. 3 pen style 150's. All 3 measure reasonably well if you push the button enough times; one has a tendency to drop to 50 mw or less unless the button is pushed a lot.

However, there were NO tail caps with key locks. This is not OK. That is a significant safety feature and one of the major reasons I ordered these. Will the tail caps with locks be sent separately?

Thanks,
William

Add me to the list of complaints, my HL 532 300mw is definitely under-spec. I had two brand new AW IMR 16340's arrive today, and immediately after a fresh charge, from a cold start, the highest peak I saw was 240mw. After that once the laser body has warmed, wait 5 minutes between tests, highest I can get is 180mw. :cryyy:

My PL 650 1w is the bees knees though:D

:( the address on the package was wrong they left out first number so they going to attempt tomorrow and put a slip on the door cuz no one will be home so looks like ill get it Friday.
I had to call them to straighten things out. what sucks is if they would post street addresses In the tracking info I could of corrected it earlier.

Guys, can you with your results also post the kind of LPM you are using?

The reason I ask is, all the TEC based LPMs have a slow response time. In most cases you're basically not seeing the first ~30 seconds as output, and you're certainly not seeing the same kind of instability.

This is just a suspicion, but I think what could be happening, is the lasers were rushed out, and they were tested by Sky... but tested very quickly. Few seconds, it hit the mark, it's in the box and it's shipped. As a result we're seeing underspec lasers now.

I mean my HL532 300mW, IS 300mW, but only for the first few seconds... at the one minute mark the unfiltered output is fine, but once you look at IR content, it's underspec.

:thanks:The way I get around the slow response is to take another unit that measures around the same and "prep" the LPM with it. This may have to be done multiple times to get it right with cooldowns in between runs.
Direct from Sky site:
The amazing green handheld laser,532nm,higher power, our power type are tested with IR filtered.
Same written for lps and pls
I expected tailcaps with keylocks as well.
Had ordered seperately (a month ago) an LP635-130 and got a regular cap. Asked this question some posts back and noone answered it yet. Didn't think that just the FDA ones got the keyed caps as Sky touts this feature. Could be wrong. Anyone know? I would like my key switch (obviously) if it's supposed to come with it. Would like to hear input from those who got their pens.
Also, be warned (and I'm glad I caught this) that the case that came with the lp (it was black) will push down on button when closed so you need to have the laser oriented toward the cutout if you are storing your unit with batteries in. The only units I store with batteries in are my pens that I use regular alkalines.

Got one of my tracking numbers today. Thanks for the update Offroad (who's bud?);) Just checked and got second one. Holding my tongue about issues because of an open request made by a friend concerning units. I won't interfere with that request as this would be unfair to some of you. Let's see how the rest of my units turn out. Shows likely delivery for second batch on Friday and potentially the problem child on Friday as well. Don't know if DHL delivers on Saturday but I believe fedex does

I made this same observation. I got two LPs, neither with key locks. I wish they had them, too.

I made a video testing my HL532-300 that appears misaligned or without output. Does it show everything we need? Doh. I just watched it and the DMM display cannot be seen to show battery is charged.

None of my LP's came with lock's, I got 3 of them and 1 outside the groupbuy and none of them have it :(

Good point, I have two Laserbee meters and use the 2.5 for testing these Lasers but did not check for IR leakage yet. My PL650-1000 seems over spec also peaking at just under 1200 and resting at about 1130.

Tracking says laser is at my house. :) I At college now cant wait to get home.
The irony is I have not ordered batteries yet :tinfoil:

OK, here we go...

I received my order in full yesterday as I was leaving for work (I'm sensing a pattern here) all intact, and with no visible signs of damage. Don't know if the DHL guy was nice or not as he never knocked or rang the bell - just dropped at the porch.

The HL405nm-500mw came with both tail-caps and two diffraction caps. One of the diffraction caps was poorly threaded - never seats, just keeps spinning.
Metered: 556mW peak dropping off to a pretty stable 545mW.

The LP532nm-150mW did not come with locking tail-cap.
Metered: 200mW peak dropping to a relatively stable 178mW for 20sec. or so and then gradually dropping off. I have no IR filter to check beam IR content.
This unit also casts reflections from the front cap threads for the diffraction caps that look like an oddly shaped spider web.

EDIT: LPM was a Laserbee II Deluxe that I'm JUST learning to use!

The LP635nm-20mw gift pen is sweet! It did not come with a locking tail-cap. It has three modes: off - on - flash, blinking in just under half second intervals.
Metered: 41mW peak for 15sec. dropping off to a stable 38mW over the remaining 45sec. of test.

QC on the threading of the diffraction caps - n/g
Barring any degradation of the lp532, the spiderweb reflections from the 532, and excluding the lack of locking tail-caps for the pens, I'm pleasantly satisfied with with my purchases in this GB.

Thanks Offroad!

That is a clear sum up.

I wonder why Kevin change the tailcap of the the laser pen without noticing us.

I'm unsure, Blord, however, the locking tail-caps were indeed a motivating factor in my choice as I have a young grand-daughter that LOVES my lasers. I've been extremely firm in educating her in what she can and cannot touch, but if I were a kid, the temptation would be.....

You can use a second set of goggles in lieu of an IR filter.

Block the green light, anything remaining is IR.

Just make sure to move the goggles around so you don't burn/mark them, and also be careful about reflections from the goggles.

I find this is easier, since the IR filters I have are tiny and hard to place over aperture.
