Get a macroshot camera and look closer, that may answer your problem...
I've got homemade macroshots with a laser collimator lens infront of my cellphone CCD. Pretty neat, you should try it! ;)
for cleaning I use 99% lab-grade isopropyl alcohol (I clean AIXIZ LENS --- DO NOT TRY IT on a very expensive lens, like the G-1... for the aixiz glass coated lens it works fine), and dry it with a cotton swab.

hope this helps. ;)

Well well, you should ask Jayrob. I'm no scientist so I don't know what are the components of the AR coating (maybe different from aixiz?) so you could damage it mistakenly, and after all, it is a $50 lens :wtf:
Do whatever you want :beer:

hahah me too. Pew pew FTW!
Do some research on the G1.. you will find what you seek. ;)

edit:
enlighten me just a little, anselm. What does means "UTFSE"?

lmgtfy. You hotlink to lmgtfy.com/?q=search+terms to make fun of the other people's thread.

:p

@jakeGT
take easy on anselm. He did it before he fully read the thread, he is kinda playful. ;)

have you cleaned / found something about the lens?

i honestly don't care

if your not here to help, no need to reply, very simple. this is the "help" section, not the laskntinsitn or whatever the google thing is thread

Oh well. He's right, anselm. He posted this on HELP because HE DIDN'T know something, I think 99.9% of us use google before asking something...

no that thread isn't good enough for me either, i did not find the information that "I" wanted, might have worked for you, but not me. does that say anythign about a g-1 lens in that or any other thread? none that I have found., sorry if i Wanted to be extra careful, and make 110% sure so i didnt F up my $55 lens.

So your real question is:
is the coating on the G-1 lens different then all the other coatings on other lenses?

Yet you had to ask what UTFSE means:rolleyes:
That was the only reason I put that other link there...:na:

@anselm
I knew it mean't use the f*cking search engine. I just wanted to hear that from your mouth (well.. fingers), because it isn't a polite thing to say to a 'intermediate member', especially on a HELP THREAD.

my doubt is screwing up my g-1 lens, which is $55 compared to $7, or 10. Which even Jayrob couldn't give me a clearcut answer saying 99% iso alchohol may not be safe for them, which is what almost ALL those threads say to use!

My answer is.. wait for jayrob or PM another member who you know that owns the G-1. Period.

You are more than right being cautious with a very expensive lens.
