CL-16RGY scanner review

Hemlock Mike said:
Specs for the RGY projos are quite similar. The 140 mW units use a 100 mW red and a 40 mW green.

Thanks Mike!
I'm sure going to contact him about pricing when I decide exactly which model to get!

:)

do you still have that little chart i gave you? just look on that, it tells you where it is! just adjust the first slider so the number above it is around 30-90, and the second one 90. sometimes it can change with the laser show, so if yours is different, you can change it on that chart if you'd like! have fun!

OH yes -- I have your chart.  I also got a used Dell inspiron today which will soon have my RGY programs loaded -- I asved all the down load stuff to a flash USB memory so I have the exe files.

I'll try the welcome thing later --

Mike

nope not yet? senkat sent it out on the 12th, so it should be here in 4-5 days, next week sometime, but it is the holidays next week, so i can play with it alot! ;D

hmm i wonder if you will be able to see the lasers colour when i get the DVD??? i managed to take a peek on the camera guys screen during the concert, and the laser was very bright on the camera, but i wonder if colour will come through? hehe i think the dvd will have enough pictures for me, he had 8 camera's setup around the stage, and one up the back where i was, and a crew of another 9 people were sitting. we were sitting up in the mezanine, and i was right next to the lighting guy, and the sound guy(my cousin), and there were some other people up there too, a camera guy, which was on the other side of the lighting guy, then the projector guy(he had about 4 projectors he had to control on the night) and then the lyrics person. so in total we had 12 computer screens up there ;D ;Datleast we were out of the crowd, it got abit wild! i had to control the rest of the lighting for a while to, because the hazer stopped, and it was down under the stage. so the lighting guy had to go down into the crowd and check what ws wrong with it. it turns out that it ran out of fog juice, so he had to find more, while i was trying to control a laser, about 12 par cans, 4 moving heads and 2 really complicated scanners, but luckily he had allready semi programmed the show, but the rest i had to do manually(and the band asked for the lighting to be dimmed, luckily i sorta knew how to do that, the lighting guy was under the stage at the time ;D). man that was prolly the funnest 4 days of my life! that was the show, which lasted bout 2 hours. not to mention the 2 day setup, and 2 day packup!. it was all good fun though, and would do it again aytime! i also scored about $100AUS just for that!YAY!! now i have no idea how long the DVD is going to be, but i'm anxious to see how it turned out, after all, i had to sit infront of my laptop sreen for 2 hours strait staring and changing sliders. the only time i got to do anything was to make sure i wasn't continuosly hitting someone in the face with the laser, and to go to the toilet everynow and then(quite a few times actually, befoe the show started, some lady brought up lots of cans of softdrink ;D ;D ;D ;D one thing that did catch me out though in the setup of the show was that we had a huge blacklight we were planning on using, and it was the first thing we put up on the lighting truss. and luckily it was before the show, because we turned it on, but it has to warm up, so we sat on the stage, with this big blacklight hanging over us discussing the lighting plan, next thing there was a massive bang, and a shower of black glass came puoring down on us. damn it! we all said, and went up to get the thing off the truss before it dropped more glass, sweeped the floor, and we all had to go home for a shower >:( anyway we didn't have any spare bulbs for th blacklight, and one of the performances required all blacklight, so we had to get some flouro's in. that scared the crap outta me, but it was fun! we had this special cable we used called "multicore", and basically it was a massive cable with about 30 DMX cables inside it. i used 1 for the laser, and the lighting guy used 1 for the rest, but the sound guy used the rest. but then the band decided they wanted 2 drummers, so we had to go and get the multicore out of another nearby place. that multicore had about 50 DMX cables in it. and can you believe it! just the sound used over 60 cables!!!!!!!!!! and lighting used only 2!! at the end, we had to put the cable back, so we had to figure where the 26 plugs went. we did eventually, but it was soo boring! he had some intelligent lights there he had 4, they are the ones i called moving heads before, and they are just awesome! they can rotate 360degree's,a nd they can spin around 360degrees's. so basically they can shine light on anyplace light can get to from where they where placed! they can change between over 20 colours including UV and pure white, and even have internal gobo's(patterns/pictures)! they are awesome lights, but there RRP is about $1000AUS!! i saw some for $300AUS on ebay once, and was about to buy it, and i wish i did, but i went out on the night it ended :'( it looks like he sells more though! anyway i though i'd just share almost everything with you!LOL my longest post!!hehehe

Wow things, thanks for writing a book about it.. ;D Seriously though I am glad you had a good time...still waiting to see some pics.. :P

ya pics will come as soon as i get the dvd! but i haven't yet so i will have to wait! i seriously want to see what it turned out like too, as i was staring at my laptop screen the whole time, i hope it shows the colour on camera, as the beams definately did!

YAY!!!!!!! 1000 POSTS!!!!! WOOOHOOO!!!

So I am new to lasers, and I wondering what the difference is between this laser and lasers like the American DJ emerald scan. Like is it that much brighter?

if i remeber corectly, the emerald scan is 4.9mw right? well this scannner has 100mw red, 40mw green, and yellow is red and green mixed, so it is 140mw. so this laser is much brighter than the ones ADJ sells, but in some countries, laser shows over 5mw are illegal, so ADj is selling lasers that are in the legal limits of some countries.
hope that helps

Hey things how is the CL-16RGY been working out for you guys?
Any problems or issues?
I've got one on the way and I can't wait!
I may just play with it a little then sell it and try another model that has dual apertures 80R/40G x 2 but no DMX.
Over here: http://szshinp.com/en/products.asp?nsid=3&pid=21
The specs on their website are incorrect for the DL-22+ according to their rep. Website says 80R/30G x 2 but they told me the green was actually 40mW. WTF? ::)
We'll have to see. I really like the idea of the DMX and I've been looking over at enttec at the DMX USB Pro you guys have been talking about also.

Have a good one!
:)

yup no probs!! everything is going fine! when you get yours, you are going to be very happy!! you should get it within 3 days!
you don't really need DMX, it's just if you want more control over the laser, and since i take it to concerts and things now, i have to have a good control over it.
have fun!

No DMX??? :-?
Personally, I would not buy a scanner without some form of advanced control. The auto mode is usually more of a demonstration.
I can't see why you would want one of these fine instruments and not be able to control it. Like getting a new computer with nothing but a screen saver on it, or a nice car with no steering wheel.

it does have DMX, but it is not absolutely necessary to use it unless you have a theatre, concert or whatever situation.

well guess what! :D :D i am doing another disco for a school in november, but this time i am taking THE LOT! i will be taking the laser, my laptop, and the rest of the lighting stuff i have. should be fun with about 300 kids atleast attending ;)
