The funny thing is, a lot of guys rag on him for that video regarding all
the diodes it 'may' have killed...
But many forget the fact that the video told you how to do it with junker parts.
That in mind, the LD was to be taken from a dead DVD burner, he didnt say
to go out and drop a wad of cash on a burner..
I got my DVD burner for 100$ at the time, and it would have been my own
stupidity if I would have killed it..
I did some reading around and made mine with a resistor to limit current.
Several months later I found LPF and went from there.
If you looked at the IR with no optics I wouldn't be too worried, unless
you tried to look inside :undecided:
While its not a good idea, I think I did the same thing :shhh:
He could emphasize more on safety, especially with a larger audience,
needs to be drilled into their heads.
Hopefully no time soon.. It will all depend on how many idiots try to laze aircraft.. Lets
just hope Molsons doesnt add 5mW greenies instead of T-shirts in 24's this year :drunk:

My thoughts exactly
After I saw that video I stole the DVD burner from one of my computers and dusted off my old maglight...
I took apart the drive and extracted a diode no prob, unfortunately I had grabbed the ir diode not the red. I powered that thing up and thought why is this so dim. I remember looking straight into the bare diode, it's a wonder I'm not blind.
I still have that diode, the diode that caused me to search the Internet about how to properly build a laser pointer... The diode that led me here.
So I thank him for showing me a laser could be more than the little toys at the dollar store, and I thank him for doing it improperly.

Once those laws come to Canada they will be stupider then anywhere else, probably comparable to Aus
