c-mount LUZY laser pistol






The beautiful golden diode of legend and the no2 cartridges arrived other day! The no2 is nice and cold and I have been busy. I wired the drives and switches. I made a battery retainer latch. I cut the frame so the receiver tube can come straight out of the top instead of sliding out. This makes it much easier and faster to disassemble at the cost of a little beauty. I also cut the rear of the bottom of the front sight to allow the lens tube to be removed without removing the button guard.

I must admit I am nervous about drilling the diode placement hole. I am more of a sculptor than a technician or machinist. :undecided: I'm going to borrow a mill vise.

If I had to guess Id say its laser + uzi. Edit: Im a little late

Really like you idea for the cooling system! I'm just wondering how long it will last. Are you putting in a needle valve to control the gas flow?

The cracker itself is a rudimentary needle valve. By turning the rear sight you open and close the valve. I'm still trying some methods to restrict the flow of gas. I put a bead chain in the hose and it restricted the gas beautifully until I opened it too fast and it shot out like a string pellet gun! :D Still ironing this out. There was nothing obstructing the departure of the beads... I was just seeing how cold it would get. It was surprising. the cracker itself gets very cold and is screwed and thermal pasted directly to the heat sink.
I also just had the idea of reusing the old cartridges by filling them up with freezer pack jell. Trying them out as tiny micro coolers. It could work, but I don't want it to get too cold. And I would be sad about not getting to spray gas.

Can't wait to see you fire it up! The host is way too sexy to not spray photons all over the upper atmosphere (sans aircraft, including space shuttles at this point :) ) make those votes happy!!!

I suddenly find myself worried about satalites space shuttles astronauts and aliens. I do not want to start a frickin laser fight with the government or aliens! I imagine I would loose badly. :tinfoil:

I apologize, I have been busy with boring, normal, non-laser related things.
I have spent a very dramatic week staring at the final four leads protruding from the power supply box and the receiver tube like a gang of angry red and black snakes.
My hesitation paid off! My wise uncle, overlooking my project, Shouted "Faf!" pointed at my thermometer and said "That is bi-metal, and therefore it is crap! you must use thermal adhesive strips!" I have demurred to his greater wisdom, being an industrialist of some note. I have acquired and incorporated a thermal adhesive strip, directly above the heat sink. This allows me to forgo drilling a thermometer hole through the heat-sink, granting a better, more natural view of the readout, While avoiding a large ugly protruding dial of questionable accuracy.
Now the leads are soldered, the snakes have been twisted and joined in and endless kiss.
all that is left is test, and lens adjustment, and test and lens adjustment...
