Added BDR-S03 diode to the chart based on Dr. Lava's test to failure (275ma, but with high voltage required).

I rated it as a 4X, which I think Daguin also agreed with.

Excellent chart. I don't know maybe I'm greedy but 100 hours seems like a very short time to me...

Well put. 2 minutes a day seems like the average use one of these diodes is likely to get. If my diode lasted for 8 years, I would most likely have replaced it with a more powerful one long before its expected life ran out

I guess I am just used to seeing the 5,000 hour life times on all of the laser sites :P

Since Igor's test of the first 8X is well over 175 hours of run time at 150% of rated pulse power;

I have updated my power chart at the beginning of this thread.

The 8X diode looks like it could go many more hours,
since it has only degraded ~12%.

I also got pulse power current levels on 320mW Nichia BR diodes, so I adjusted numbers to reflect actual mfg. levels.

Thank you to the supporters who donated for this testing,
and Igor for his considerable time donation to run an accurate test procedure.

i hope to get a reply. ok i'm new to this forum, but it's come up on my search many times, so i decided to try it out.

i was reading up on this page, but i don't fully understand it. am i getting scammed or is this just a different kind of diode?

405nm 280mw burning blu-ray laser diode. USA 3 day ship - eBay (item 270500519280 end time Dec-22-09 13:14:56 PST)

according to this one that i bought for a separate project, the seller says it's 200 mw CW and it can pulse up to 300 mw and that it's 6x blu ray. or is the seller just telling me the peak so that the laser has a short life? the seller also says the ideal range to drive it is ~300ma, but isn't that what the 8x blu rays run at already?

the 2nd question is what kind of output does the following 8x have? i mean as far as a decent life goes.

Newegg.com - LG Black 8X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 5X DVD-RAM 6X BD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 8X Blu-ray Burner - Bulk Model WH08LS20K - Blu-Ray Burners it's the cheapest blu ray 8x i could find on the net and there was a link just like it in here so i figured it can't be all that bad. i know typically 8x runs at 300 ma or so, but how much power would the diode from this system put out? and what's this particular machines max and recommended power.

FYI i dunno how to start a post, plus i figure my question is kind of related to this topic, based on what i searched in the search box, plus this way i dont flood the forums with new topics. :P your responses would be greatly appreciated. thnx :D

The diode he is selling is an SF-AW210 from a 6X sled.

It is on the chart above @ 189ma current. It should output ~ 210mw at that current.

The LG WH08LS20K can run over 330 hours @ 300 ma.

Power should be ~ 380 mw.

thanks for your time :) actually based on the answer you gave me, i now understand how the chart works, so you answered that question indirectly. >.<

so i guess i'm just not gonna trust the person on ebay telling me to run it at 300-320 ma in the item description, i'll just do it according to your chart thing since i trust your info more than some random ebay dude :D i didn't have as much knowledge prior to buying the diode, but even a 6x at 240 is still worth making :D (even though the page claimed 280 or near 300 -_-)

BTW, I have decided to put a SF-AW into the empty space in the torture chamber, while waiting for the 12x, because i really want to figure out what they are capable of...

From the limited experience i had with them and what i heard, they don't seem to be as tough as the old GGWs were.. 200mW might be too much for them, 170mW would be the minimum i would hope to get reliably, but might yield "too much" time. Or not.. They are really strange, their average efficiency much higher than that of old GGWs, they should have a 100mW CW/200mW Pulsed power rating, but somehow i don't trust them as much.

I'll probably set it in the middle and see what happens. I predict this test will be over before the 12x arrives...

I've been running them at 170mA's...

They seem pretty stable at that current. (AW210)
