Re: Help vortish! WINNERS POSTED!

Coincidentally, mine also arrived today.
It's very nice, doing about 65mW when
cold. :thanks:

LOL

I too received my Alaskan Laser, and, its got a cool diffraction accessory on it that makes patterns, and, its my only laser that does that.

I really like it, and, want to say a hearty THANKS!!!!

Re: Help vortish! WINNERS POSTED!

Welcome,

Vortish, Master Phillips asked me to give you one of his. I hunted for where I hid those diffraction lenses off and on for two weeks, finally found them and mailed stuff out late. Sorry for the delay in shipment. The negative side of batteries go in first. They can run on a single 3.7 VDC battery too. I ran out of batteries to be able to give everyone some, but most had them. I didn't choose who did or didn't get batteries, just put them in the boxes until I was out of them. The return address for me on the boxes is no longer any good, so I hope they arrive OK to everyone.

I wish I could help Vortish rn. If I won the 387m lottery he'd be getting about a million :)

Any guesses as to specs?

Re: Help vortish! WINNERS POSTED!

I went through about 20 of them and picked the brightest of them to send, as viewed by eye. I didn't measure the outputs, I probably should have, but from what I've found in past measurements, these were probably 50-80mw outputs, 25 percent of that IR. I've abused the hell out of this model in the past by running them a long time and haven't been able to kill them, they just keep on working.

Re: Help vortish! WINNERS POSTED!

I received my laser from Alaskan yesterday and just opened it today! Thanks Alaskan:D
I'll see if I can get around to metering it tomorrow.

Vortish, how are things going? Any improvements?

Re: Help vortish! WINNERS POSTED!

Yea, that was a long wait. I like to unscrew the plastic lens assembly tube and then use it to play with lenses to learn how they work, with the tube removed that has the lens in it, the plastic expander is exposed. Still, close in the beam is very tight, but after 10 feet expands out a few inches. You can remove the little black tube with the lens in it and screw it back in later, but the wax seal is then broken loose, although this has not been a problem for me, it stays well enough.

Re: Help vortish! WINNERS POSTED!

Forgot to mention that mine came with 2 CR123a batteries in it. Suppose that was for testing purposes?
I'll likely be making my unit focus-able;) Looks pretty easy. Same general principal as my pen tutorial. Make sure you roughen up the metal surface where the lens would touch to give the epoxy something to hold onto. Not my fault if you get glue on your lens. If you do mess up that lens holder/assembly is the same as most 532nm pens. DON'T touch the lens! Can't clean those plastic ones.
Just tested and mine at 60mW will easily light a black match and a red one from about 5" away which is the end of the lens holder threads;) Means they have low IR.
Warning that you shouldn't try lighting a match head with that much power without glasses unless you want to see a nice spot for awhile.

Re: Help vortish! WINNERS POSTED!

Yeah, mine also contained a pair of (dead)
CR123 cells. They were quickly replaced
with a single 18650. A single CR123 isn't
enough to run it for very long and two of
them is really too much voltage.

I was going to do a current increase mod,
but after looking at the datasheet, the
poor little SOT-89 transistor is already
being overdriven around 143% at 4.2V. It
isn't like we can just slap a Flex Drive in
there either because the diode is case
positive. So short of a transistor swap, I
will probably just end up leaving it alone
for the time being.

Re: Help vortish! WINNERS POSTED!

Update on how I am doing.. The SAME! more tests thought. Saw a pain specialist a month ago and we are still working on some things. I saw a pain doc from the University of Washington Pain department. they are a medical teaching school and have really good doctors. any way I saw him via webcam at my dr office last week and brought up some thing new. My first cousin maternal side has EDS or Ehelors-Danlos it a connective tissue disease and may what is wrong with me. only way to find out is with genetic testing. But my doc is wondering to so sent for eval for me. the pain doc wants to see me as well and also neurological surgeon. so hopefully the insurance signs off on it and i will head over to seattle for some testing.

Still not working and neither is my wife but I we got our taxes back and we able to pay three months of bills with it so we are ok for now

Re: Help vortish! WINNERS POSTED!

Vorish,

Thanks for the report, glad things are financially better for awhile. I am always up and down in that area myself since I was divorced a couple of years ago and still paying off that debt. On the medical side, hope your doctors can figure out what the problem is so they can treat it properly. I know some people who have solved their own medical problems by doing their own research and pointing the way to their doctors, they only spend a little time on each patient, best to do all you can researching and informing them.

On TLS, sorry about the batteries, I had no idea you would receive them dead. I've been using two 3.7-4.2 VDC batteries for months in several of those modules, no problems to date, but I agree, a single 18640 is what I think they were made for. I bought the CR123 for testing, initially believing these were what they took, later understanding they are better run with a 18640 but since I ran a couple dozen of them off of the two CR123's without a problem for 10 minutes at a time many times I wasn't worried. I'm still running some of mine off of two 3.7 volt batteries in series, better to use a single 18640 though.
