Black safety goggles for use with lasers?

Hey guys,

I just picked up some "safety goggles" that are black in color for 2 $ thinking that they might be used with certain wavelengths of light. They don't work with 532 or 445 nm lasers but I wonder if they would be effective with higher wavelengths such as 650 or 808 nm lasers? If not, then I would just use them to protect my eyes with other things...

They might be used for night vision of low power red BUT they likely won't stop IR at all.
Toss them.

Rule of thumb: don't use any "safety" equipment that you don't know the capabilities of. Dark goggles will make your pupils dilate, and if they provide no protection, it is actually worse than if you hadn't used goggles in the first place.

I understand your point. In that case, I will just be using them to protect my eyes against flying debris when drilling or cutting things.

Hmm.. not a good idea either i suppose... when handling power tools you generally want to be able to see what you are doing

In that case, the manufacturer shouldn't have labelled them as safety goggles. Unless you're out in the sun working with power tools, this thing looks pretty useless to me...
But for 2 $, I couldn't care less lol.

Who knows what they were intended for.. perhaps for sports use, like (water)skiing where you are in the sun, and at risk from stuff getting into you eyes? Or for testing bombs in the desert, or ...
