I recently bought a 12x sled off Glenn and came across the need to know where the diode is located and how I can get it off. Any ideas, photos, or even videos? :D

I have one around here somewhere. Let me dig it up and I will get you some shots. I do remember it is on the side sticking right out. No need to disassemble the sled just cut the ribbon and pull it off with a pair of pliers. Use your iron and remove the ribbon from the pins while it is in it's little heatsink. Then you just take the heatsink in two pairs of pliers and contort it back and fourth until the diode falls out. Small flexes you don't want to damage the can.;)

Is it much to ask you to make a video? It would help lots of people here :) Photos are okay, but a video is 10^6 words :P Thanks for your reply anyway :)

Just contorting the heatsink slightly back and fourth so the diode works it's way out.:)

DTR, it was a piece of cake to know where the 12x diode is located. I had no idea it was so easy to access :eek: This made it 1000 times easier, mate. Already reped you so.. Thanks bud :beer:
Btw, while contorting the heatsink, it broke and the diode was too easy to get out with a little push on the head :) ( not on the diode window, but on the sides )

Yep the heatsink is really brittle and some times will just snap in half or the diode will fall out. Which ever comes first is fine by me.:D
 
Would this method work with other sleds like the SF-BW512L? I assume it would but everybody knows what happens when you assume...
 
I twisted a red LPC-815 the other day trying this method here described.
The heatsink material must be different, because by the time the heatsink gave in,
I managed to twist the diode quite badly, the baseplate is crooked and the unused pin is, well, unusable.

Funny enough, the diode still lases like a winner.
