Hey team,

Just getting into this hobby and I don't know a whole lot about high(er) powered hand heads. What are the best batteries? Rechargeable or not? High mAH or average?

I have a used JL PL-E 5w 445 on the way and a new JL 3w on the way too.... I have no idea what to expect, lol...

I also ordered a cheap $48 Gatling 1000mW 445 just to see what they're all about (I have no expectations. I just wanted to experiment w/something as I have no idea how long JL will take to arrive.

So what kind of 16350's should I get?

thanks in advance...

Km

Those are some good quality lasers you have on the way to you. 3W's of 445 is probably more than enough to burn what you have in mind, including your eyes. I saw another member suggested getting an EaglePair safety goggles and that's a good idea, definitely at these power levels. I would do some further readings within the forum on previous members who have received a similar laser and their reviews on it, that may give you a better idea of what to expect.

Be safe :)

Don't buy batteries which have the word "fire" anywhere in it, or the chargers made by those companies, junk! Sometimes they actually solder in much smaller capacity batteries with sand surrounding them inside a larger battery form. Forget their mAH or milliamp rating, many of the Li-ion batteries on ebay and sold online are lying about their capacity 2 to 3 times higher than what they really are. You can google to find battery reviews done by legitimate individuals and find the info that way.

Here is one of the best sites for battery and charger reviews, you can find most everything you want to know about a particular battery or charger here.

Edit: Here's the full site showing all of the battery and charger reviews.

PS - Congrats on your new incoming JL's, they're some of the best commercial lasers available, and their customer service is by far the best.

Efest, and AW batteries are the easiest to find in the "16340" and "18350" size and are very good.
When you get to "18650" there are way more options.
Just to note those "CR123" cells which are the same basic size as the 16340 will not supply enough voltage to get the best out of your laser.

It's good to get button top batteries when your running them in series or you might have to use a small neo magnet or a dab of solder.
Most protected cells are a tiny bit bigger and can have fitting issues in the host. You don't need protected cells if you keep a eye on your batterys voltage.
imrbatteries.com is good store and if you want to save on shipping there is "Ir-sales" on ebay

Hello again Kramer.

Yes, please make sure to get the right EaglePair. It is next to mandatory if you want to not go blind. These are the ones for blue lasers: https://www.survivallaserusa.com/Ea...rd_Laser_Safety_Goggles/p1667092_7862033.aspx

Or if you wear glasses you can get these slipovers: https://www.survivallaserusa.com/Ea...er_Laser_Safety_Goggles/p1667092_7862524.aspx

I forget what batteries the PL-E Pro uses so I can't give you much there. I assume by "16350" you meant 16340?
Then to answer your question, I would recommend these Vapcells: https://liionwholesale.com/collecti...800mah-battery-genuine?variant=28408751816798

They are the ones I use and are one of the best all around 16340s you can get. I assume this is for the gatling so you'll need two of them.

Hope this helps :)

I'm glad to see liionwholesale.com is selling 16340 batteries now. They have always been who I buy my 18650s from, but used to not carry the 16340s before.

Yep, I contacted them a while back why they don't offer 16340s and they said they did but it was hidden for some reason. Fixed now 😎

Hey thanks.. yes, I plan to do A LOT of research....I'm afraid to even turn it on in the house, lol (nervous gulp)...There's a pair of JL's "whatever" glasses included in one of them. Definitely look better than those joke red glasses that come w/the cheap kits. Thanks for the reply(!)

I just ordered the efest 850mah 16340s(authentic) and at least thus far I haven't had great luck with them (maybe they didn't have a full charge from the store I can tryband see how long they last after my stock batteries die again and I may be able to let you know if I feel they any better.

Most of the batteries that I've ever purchased have not been fully charged, many seem to be charged between 3.2V, and 3.7V in my experience.

Give them a good charge and see how they perform. :)

None of the batteries I purchase come fully charged. It isn't great to leave them like that or to ship them that way. I always start out by fully charging them then testing each for capacity. That is before I ever use one.

Lithium batteries are never fully charged when you buy them. They are charged to a storage voltage. Storing a Lithium battery at the fully charged voltage actually causes degredation. Its always reccomended to use Storage Voltage if they are not be used for a long time.

Lithium Polymer is very bad for this. Storing them at Full Voltage causes out gassing in only a few months.

So Snecho, it was YOU that got Liionwholesale to fix their web sight??
You are a LEGENDo_O
