Back on point...

If you have power suppliy for it, it can be called portable or handheld :)

Thanks,

@alex

You can always carry 2 suitcases, one battery, one laser if that's fine for you.
I seen people charge their cars using suitcase packed, batteries.

You could have nearly the same thing by spending a *lot* less than you do, be it labbies or handhelds. In fact you could have a whole rainbow for less than you spent on these labbies.

Get some of each so you don't have to choose anymore and that solves the problem or I'm afraid this bouncing back and forth is just going to cost a fortune. Part of the reason for the waffling is the dot issue in my opinion. I wouldn't be interested in lasers at all if all I got to see was a dot. I love the magic of seeing a laser slice through the air like it's going on forever. Enjoy the hobby all over again with laser beams:) Laser beams that don't require fog;)
There's a lot to be said for a projector that has built in modes/effects. I've shown quite a few people that have come over some of my lasers but what really gets them is a little fog and my PD2 projector and it's effects wheel. I do own quickshow. Hak/Len tried hard to get members interested in projectors and the response was pretty good a couple years ago but as this place changed it died out.
Everyone likes what they like and my suggestion to Hap is not in any way meant to suggest if someone likes low powered dots or anything else that's somehow not great for them. Who cares what someone else thinks. Collect what you want and feel good about it.

Yeah...

Gave it another big thought and I couldn't justify $3800 to get a yellow labby just to be able to see the dot. Many people think I'm already crazy enough to spend so much on pointers but labbies?

Yikes! I simply hate the cost of these labbies, plus I miss my Rigel :D

Edit: Would you guys recommend a 593.5 or 589 pointer? I know 593.5's are much rarer :)

:)

Why not just bite the bullet, keep your current toys and start getting pointers and a projector?

I'm not really into projectors. I just like seeing the beam and dot of a laser, that's all :)

I'm strange like that unfortunately, can't have both labbies or pointers. It's one or the other, my brain is weird like that :yh:

Are you able to have both shoes and boots and a pair of slippers? Do you wear a variety of different clothing? Or do all your clothes look the same? Would you be able to own both a car and a truck if you could afford it? Maybe you could have different lasers if they were all the same color.

Most of my clothes are pretty much the same. If I could afford it, I would rather have one vehicle.

No need to be rude.

Sorry didn't mean to be. My clothes are all the same, just different color shirts. If you do change back to pointers I have a suggestion, instead of spending a fortune on the most expensive pointers, you should consider buying parts and several hosts that are all the same like maybe one of the Survival Laser hosts, if you buy the right parts then you just need to solder 2 pairs of wires together and assemble the parts, there's not much to it. This way you can buy more lasers, you can also get more powerful ones with a visible beam, and they can all look the same, or if you want they can have a different color heat sink or focus knob if you want but still have the same host.

^That's alright Alan, I know I can be a pain at times.

I'll have to see where I want to head next, but I may get LaserGlow pointers and maybe wet my feet into some DIY lasers soon. I've watched a few 447nm 1W building video and for $100 can make my own, which ain't too bad.
