awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.00 sh

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

Just as I finished sending a message to the ebay store, I just received a response from Charlie to my e-mails, and he told me to send it back for an RMA. He gave me an address but didn't tell me to do anything else to the package. I asked him if I should label it with some sort of a number to make sure they know its mine. Waiting on that response right now.

**He told me to just stick a note in it and he'd "catch up to it when it arrives"

When my driver well popped they did not ask for pictures or anything.

:-( Well i gotta mail it back.. No extra module for me.. Maybe they'll add something extra? lol.. I just want a working module. I asked him to test it before it is mailed back.

I dont think im gonna mail mine back unless it becomes so bad it wont run in tem00 without the power bieng cycled over and over... when I get my 4th laser, ill measure the ma on one of them. I am going to build an lm317 driver for it.

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

I checked the current with a clamp-on, and got roughly .4 amps. I say roughly because my meter does not have a lower range. I did do a double wrap and divide by 2.

I checked the 2 (very different) modules that I have. The beams are the same height from the base plate at the aperture. The beams were also close to parallel to the base plate. One was about 1 mm high at 1m, and the other was about 2mm low. That means that I can get coplanar beams with only minor shimming. Nice!

I didnt think there was such a thing for dc, how do you measure the current in a dc circuit with a clamp on probe? I thought this required ac. Anyway, I FINALY recieved the 4th laser module today, and the power supply is bad on it. I am tired of messing with aixiz, it took them over 2 weeks to ship my last order out, and now the p.s. is bad. I will measure the current later, and build my own ps with an lm317. oh well, the module works fine with power from another supply. I gave aixiz good feedback on ebay. It sure seems fishy to me that they have so many bad modules... I think they are on the same order as dx is. if you get a good one, then great, but if not, they seem to be willing to exchange it for you, even though its a lot of trouble to go through to get it done. I also want to apologize to anyone out there that saw my thread and bought one of these and got a crappy one, I had no way of knowing the others were not as good as the first 2 I got. :(

Hi Max.

They do indeed make DC clamp on meters, and they work very nicely. I am curious how it works as well. Perhaps they modulate the coil side voltage and look for an offset in the average current? The down side is that my meter is for high current stuff, so anything below 1.0 is pretty inaccurate.

.4 amps, could run that from a DX 35 driver or an LM317 easily.

hmm maybe they check for the magnetic field with like an inductive sensor or something?

I got one of these from him when he ran a 24 hour "sale" on the 4th of July. The board LOOKS the same from the pictures, but I wouldn't bet on it. The module is definitely different. The beam look "tighter" and it needs active cooling (or a large heat sink) to hold its power

Peace,

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

mailed it back today. should take 2 days to arrive to texas and 2 days back to me again.

I asked chuck to test the unit before it is sent w/ a 20min on time and power check. Think he'll do it? idk with such a cheap module.. :-P

Hope the next one is better.. I'll keep you updated as far as it goes.

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

chuck said he's gonna do the testing I asked and send it out the day after. woot. It should arrive tomorrow and I should have it around tuesday/wednesday of next week.

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

ok, I have measured the current, the threshold on the module I tested was at 250ma, and the maximum output was from 630ma - 670ma on the 2 power supplies I tested. I tested them by breaking the red wire, and putting my multimeter into the circuit on 10amp scale. There you have it. It will be easy to build a ps with an lm317 and 1.85 to 2 ohms of resistance. :D
