awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.00 sh

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

The black bit at the back of the heatsink is the diode. After it fell out its been hard to put back together to get most of the power back, but for a measurement of the current i will take some pictures.

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

I will have to cut the wires to one of my lasers to measure the current. I am not going to do it to this one because I may be returning it if it keeps mode hopping. however, when I get the next one in the mail, I will cut a wire on one of my lasers and measure the current, I want to make one of them run on baterys, so in order to do that, I will have to measure the current. Is it a c-mount diode? or what? from the back, it looks like it may be, in that case, you could replace it with another higher power diode to increase the power, whether the crystals could handle this, I dont know. If it is running at 500ma. I would assume it to be a 500mw diode. If its a 1w diode, it could take up to 1 amp safely I would assume, but, you know what happens when you assume! lol. ;D

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

you dont need to cut the wires you could just flip the board around and connect the multimeter to the solder thats how i did it but i dont know if its accurate. When you measurer the current should the diode turn off?

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

you cant measure it correctly like that, only if your meter is a low resistance (.1ohm) and the power supply doesnt care that the load isnt a laser diode with a forward voltage drop. this works for an lm317 driver, but with the aixiz driver, I dont know. you would have to break one of the connections to the diode, and put the meter in series with the diode to get an accurate measurement.

and YES, the diode will turn off if you short out the power supply with your multimeter across it set for current, the meter is a short circuit. that is why I wouldnt test it this way, but like I said, the lm317 wouldnt care if you did this to it. it will just change its current to match what the load is. If the aixiz supply is a true current source, I would assume it would work, but without looking at the schematic, you dont know that. You got a reading of 580ma when you did this? when I check it, Ill let you know what I get and then we will know if it changes the reading. If the supply isnt the right kind of circuit, it could cause it to die when you short it out.

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

Anybody know if Aixiz sends e-mails during the weekend? I haven't received a reply yet and I'm wondering if they will bother to help me out with this.

Maybe not. IIRC every email I've gotten from them is written by Dr. Maricle.

Peace,
dave

Anybody know if the beams out of these modules are at the same height and alignment? I have an application that needs coplanar beams, and it would be great if I could mount them to a common plate and have a coplanar array without having to set heights and angles.

Yea I've been talking with Chris Maricle back when I was asking about it being shipped out.. Haven't been able to talk to anybody about the problem yet though.

Hmm. I realised my module never came with the sticker ontop. It was just a plain black heatsink. The pics of everyone elses have what look like to be serial numbers.

New theory on it is that the diode died on me due to driverboard going bad for whatever reason, or it was damaged in shipment due to the small 4"x4"x4" box it came in.. I'd be glad to pay extra for some better shipping materials to be used.. I can see IR shooting through with the IR cam but no green is being emitted. Hopefully on monday I'll receive a response.. :-(

Not happy..

It seems to shut off when I shake or nudge it, almost as if the wires are bad somewhere. :-P

gees, that sounds really broken. does it rattle when you shake it ? :-? Here are some pics of the tem problem... I had a hard time getting these pics, it was hard to get the camera to see the spot. first pic is mode tem00 second pic, who knows what mode.

It's not TEM(anything).

Something has come loose in the module. Since it is still green, I would guess that it is simply one of the lenses that has come loose or the module itself is loose in the heatsink. Take the lens off and look inside.

Peace,
dave

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

For some reason the last post didn't show what I typed, anyway, theres nothing loose, if I turn it off, and the on, it will run correctly, the first pic is of it running tem00. If I turn the power down a little bit, it will change to this mode, but the other day, I couldn't get tem00 out of it, and yesterday, I couldn't get the weird mode. After I played with it for a while (the power supply) I found a spot it likes to run at which is very close to full on the pot... its very strange. This is what I was talking about in the previous posts where I said it wouldn't always run tem00... I don't know, why it does this, there is definitely nothing loose inside. and as long as it runs tem00, its ok.
OH, one other thing is that I can watch it as I turn the power down and it will mode hop in to this strange mode while im adjusting it, this happens with a very small turn of the pot, then turning the power back up makes no difference, if its all the way up, turning it off and on a few times will get it back to mode 00.
Shaking it while its on makes no change in the beam.

Maybe this laser is on crack. lol! ;D

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

I had that problem too and I could fix it by lowering the potentiometer and turning it back up. The laser seems to be lasing off center and projecting to the inside of the casing or something bizarre.

Nothing rattles when I shake it. Still waiting on a solution from aixiz.. Hopefully tomorrow. Until then, I'll be using my NV-100. That dang thing has no duty cycle either. ;D

When I adjusted my pot, my laser would go from TEM00 to other modes(forgot the names of em)

like these:

(||)
((|))
()()(|)()() (but this one was arch shaped as well)

Right now I just want a working laser.. lol.. 50mw would be great... anything more is a bonus(like I was expecting)

Might want to save this picture for future reference.

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

Already got it saved, thanks. It doesn't look like anything there, so I figured it was in such a wild mode it was not even classified. lol When it does it, it kinda looks like the dot starts to rotate until it settles in the funny mode. If I had to guess at the mode, I would say something to the effect of 91.

I STILL haven't gotten an email back from aixiz. :(

Re: awesome lab quality 50mw modules for 65.00+5.0

Again, you're the first person I've heard of to use those circley ones... I think it's called Laguerre-Gaussian... but whatever. :P
