I had just ordered this off eBay and am planning to put in an Aixiz housing that I had purchased a while back.

405nm 300mw burning blu-ray laser diode. USA 3 day ship - eBay (item 270577141369 end time May-20-10 10:10:09 PDT)

If the item's not listed anymore, here are the specs that the seller had up.

405nm 300mw Burning Blu Ray Laser Diode USA 3 Day Ship

Laser diode Wavelength: 405nm.

Maximum power output: 350mw.

Maximum CW power: 250mW

Recommended CW current: 190mA

Fit perfectly in 12x30mm Laser Case

Extracted from unused 6x bluray laser diode sled.

I would like to keep the driver in the Aixiz housing if possible, I will be putting it into a mini flashlight, but keeping it small would be nice. I'd appreciate any help!

They are different types of drivers. They will all work for your application. Read up on each of them and decide which one fits you needs best. Read their respective "manuals."

Oh yeah. . . and don't run that diode at higher than 190mA

I have just purchased the Micro Drive V3, one last question though, how many volts will I need to operate my laser with based on the information given above?

The rckstr Micro Drive V3 driver has a dropout of 2.25V according to his site. Figure on an input of at least 7V. Two 3.7V Li-Ion cells would do it nicely as long as you don't run them empty.
 
the 2- 3.7's will work because at full charge you will get over 8 volts. but don't just plan on using 7.4 volts... you will fall out of regulation quickly. also... to get the 300 mw.. you will need a better AR coated lens.. look up jayrobs G1 lens for bluray.

If the lens gets ruined, I'll purchase the better version. I don't plan on using the laser all that much to be honest, xD

Where can I get the battery cells? No one local carries them...and I don't know what kind of battery would have them inside it.

What if I were to purchase a 12v battery and cut it open to extract the battery cells contained inside? I would need 6 of them if I'm not mistaken to power the driver and diode since each cell outputs 1.5v, right?

If you will tell us what battery configuration your host uses (one AA, 4 AAA, etc.) We can link you to specific batteries.

You also still need to decide which driver you will use. The voltage requirements are different between the drlava drivers and the Rkcstr or DDL drivers.

Ya I got the Rkcstr driver and im going to put it together with a 250mW 405nm blu-ray laser diode, im going to attach a lasorb and use 2 3.7v batteries to power it.
 
I am using the Rkcstr Driver. I picked up 2 Energizer 12v A23 batteries. Would using all 12 volts be very much overkill? Or would I have to add a resistor into the circuit to save the laser? I would assume that the driver would have something on it to control voltage intake, xD
 
12 volts is the max voltage for the rkcstr... so you will be fine. but it will get hot so don't touch it... and even though it will get too hot to touch it is well it its operating range..

Alright. I just don't want it to kill my laser diode b/c of too many volts going through the system. I think the max is 15v on the v3 which is what I've got on the way. Now I just need to find a way to hold the battery in place in the mini flashlight shell I'm going to use, xD

The A23 battery is a VERY low mAh battery (~40-60mAh). You will NOT be satisfied with its life attached to a 6X.

If you are pulling 170mA, how long do you think that 60mAh will last?

Answer = ~20 minutes (in a perfect, isolated environment) until it is completely drained. However, it will drop out of regulation much sooner than that. It will happen so rapidly that you will probably be able to actually see the power of your laser dropping!
