I just tripped the circuit breaker for my hall by running it in my room for a monthly burn.

When did you run yours last? Keep those tubes limber! :D

2 days ago iirc. I had to call the electrician to install a separate line and place another breaker on the panel which trips at 20 A. lol As soon as its on, the room becomes warm enough to make it uncofmortable to stay :P

My RA saw my unit and said "no way in hell" before I even got a chance to fire it up. So now I keep mine in the physics lab, where I don't have to worry so much about power consumption.

Just keep the key with me, and all is good on my end!

I'm lucky enough to live with a bunch of students who are in the honors program here... all pew pew and no QQ. :D

What is the power output of your argon ? 5 watt lol?

hmm mybe you can give the link forum post of your laser ? i want to see it :P

My argon laser is something like a 1kW (I think the tube voltage is 100V @ 7A or something crazy like that) space heater that happens to emit a laser beam. If not for the laser light, it would be 100% efficient as a heater.

It emits 42mW. :)

Hey! I actually AM in the Honors program! :P

Yeah... I live in a residence hall with a little over 100 people, I know prettymuch everyone and am friends with all three RA's. I get away with far too much.

Last year I tried viewing mode patterns of a 1mw HeNe, by firing it down the hall some 80 feet so I could see the diverged spot, and my RA pretty much flipped out. He "advised" me that the dorm was no place for science experiments. I agreed.

The only other times I used lasers in my dorm was when my roommate was out for the day, so I could close my door and flood the room with my fog machine.

We called them "beam parties"

Good times.. good times..

Beautiful tight blue beam! One of the best to choose from on the color wheel. :)

Right now :D I just got my hot little hands on a JDSU 2214-10SLA out of a DNA sequencer.
It's idling in the other room, and it's very pretty. 488nm is easily my new favourite wavelength.

Yeah argon lasers are about as efficient as the average space heater, if you figure the light output is about the same as the pilot light on the heater :)

Just put mine through the monthly burn a couple of days ago...45 minutes.

...and yes they do make great space heaters in winter, and for summer I now have the fan pointing strait out a window!

unless you use your argon laser as space heater, then it would have 99.995% efficiency.
