Final Design:

After going through a few prototypes the V1 is nearing completion.

v1.1 Ophir

Features:
  • Datalogging via PC or MAC
  • Screen
  • Displays peak power on screen
  • Zeroing to measure the loss of optics
  • Full back light control
  • Can be used on 9V battery & AC plug packs

This is not limited to TEC's and can be used with Ophir heads as well.

Firmware is still a work in progress, I have to fix some issues with the zeroing and functionality to make it more user-friendly and intuitive.

All will be released Open Source after I tidy up the firmware and schematic.

Re: ARGLPM Open Source - Coming Soon

You know what keeps surprising me is the ingenuity of the members of our forum, and that includes you ARGLaser. Great work and I hope to purchase one of these guys if they ever came to market.

Thank you!!

Re: ARGLPM Open Source - Coming Soon

Thanks! These will be in the B/S/T in a couple of weeks

Re: ARGLPM Open Source - Coming Soon

Any idea of pricing? This would go great for my Ophir, better then my simple voltmeter display in a project box. With a Ophir would the limit go up to 5W.

Yup, it would go up to 5W with an Ophir, I even have some boards that have an IC to make +9V and -9V from one 9V battery, but I may not get those fabricated as I don't think there would be enough demand to sell off a small batch.

Pricing is yet to be decided. What I say here will most likely change: I think around 85$ for the assembled board with an Arduino set up for Ophir heads.

Around 140$ for the LPM with a TEC head.

At that price I might get one, because dataloging and being able to run the whole setup off 1 9v would be a lot nicer then my current setup. Then make a new box for it to go in and if be all set.

Great job ARG!

What would be the pros and cons of using an OPHIR hear over a TEC aside from being able to reach 5W?

Pro:
5W max
Fast response time

Con:
200-220$ for the Ophir head. Essentially double the price of a TEC LPM

Re: ARGLPM Open Source - Coming Soon

How much for a used Ophir head?

Re: ARGLPM Open Source - Coming Soon

Are you confident you'll be able to keep up with the demand of user purchasing these?

Re: ARGLPM Open Source - Coming Soon

I'm in for one, too. she looks very nice. very clean.

Thats super nice.. data logging for the ophir n single 9v battery option  wins the day!!

Have to spread some love first!! +3

Yeah, I should be able to. I'm made out of free time. I made this design without a case since that's what took the most time with assembling the other prototypes.

Soldering this doesn't take long, calibration is easy enough, doesn't take to long as well.

Painting the TEC's takes the most time out of the whole process.

No idea what kind of demand to expect on these though, I'll be seeing how it goes with a couple of these (TEC edition) when they are ready.
