Are reasonably priced 12x's really that hard to find?

Is there a decent source for buying 12x Blu Ray Diodes?

I'm looking to buy a 405 nm diode for a home made host and/or buy something already made above 300mW. I'm done tinkering with PHR-803t's...

I found a 10x Diode on Ebay for $51 - in a BDR-S06J Sled, but it's in China.
There's a 12x diode also on Ebay (allegedly) in the USA - for $80..but I'll just stick with 445's if these things are going to cost that much!

I 'spose I could just order a 12x Sled from O-Like if I wanted to wait three weeks. And I'm tempted to just buy the 400mW 405 pointer from them anyway. What should I do?

I had considerd buying one of the "200mW" or better 405's from T-Mart but I seriously doubt I'd get 50mW out of it, so I decided to go for it and make or buy something worth while. I've already bult a few 445's but lately I've fallen in love with violet.

So where do I find a 12x diode for <$50 in the USA - or is that not a reasonable goal?

Somehow I bet I end up ordering from O-Like again.

I have the 405nm 400mW laser from o-like and its a great laser
but here is a laser thats just as good without the wait
New Style 300mW 405nm Waterproof Adjust Focus Violet Purple Blue Laser Pointer Pen (1 x 18650 Battery) - DinoDirect.com
i have one and it tested out at 383mW and thats with the waterproof lens in
and both lasers can they both are very easy to change the lens to the 405-g-1
with the dino direct lasers after changing out the lens to a 405-g-1 lens
it peeks out at 453mW ,,witch i got from jayrob

Thanks Tech_Junkie, I've been reading that thread while on break here @work and I think I'm going to get a couple of those BDR-S06J's when I get home - breaks over :( - and I think those sleds have a red diode in there as well if I read another thread correctly. Even so I think I may also buy an LPC-826 too, since I'd like to see a red that can do more than my 250mW module (from Dino Direct) can.

@ Barbel1976 - Thanks for the suggestion, DD, Price Angels, and O-Like have all taken the same time to get stuff to me, about three weeks each time - How long for DD to ship to IA?

Cheers,

I've got an order in with Glen for two of the BDR-S06J sleds and one of the LPC-826's, can't wait to get to work on 'em!

now I'm on ebay looking for some aluminum!
I think I might try to make a custom heatsink with my drill press - after I clean up the garage of course! ;)
Thanks again for a nudge in the right dierction!

I live right outside Chicago ,and when i order from dino direct
from date the order is placed till its at my door is no more than 3 weeks
when i order from o-like its closer to 5 weeks from date ordered till its at my door

I got one of the 12xs from O-like in 14 days. They may have rushed it though because I bought a BDR from them and then it was out of stock, so they offered me one of the other 12x's for $10 cheaper and promised shipping in 7-12 days (14 days, but still good).

I just ordered from O-Like and received it in 12 days.
There are many factors that affect shipping from China though.

All my orders from China have been sucessful so far - three w/ dinodirect & one from Price angels...& one from olike...but the things I've heard recently about O-Like have me thinking I should wait and see if they will snap out of whatever "it" is that has happened to them before I place any more orders with them..then there's worrying about customs.

I've been getting my 405s from Rayfoss lately. The last one I received was this one www.rayfoss.com It produces over 830mW with 546mA from a Microboost driver.

Wow that is brutal power for a 405! It must burn like it's angry...

I'm thinking I probably won't push my BDR-S06J's with anything that'll make more than 400mW....'course I'll up it if I don't fry it - or will I up it till I fry it?

Hi Cad602, if the BDR-S06J is the same diode from the LG 10x Blu-ray writer then I can say it will easily handle around 550mA as long as it is properly cooled. I had one running at 575mA producing 750mW before I upgraded the diode to a BW512. I still have the original diode if anyone wants it.

If you're willing to harvest a 12X from its sled, I've gotten 5 of them from a reliable guy on ebay for <$50 everytime. PM me if you want more info
