anyone seen these?






That looks like just a PHR-803T diode.

You could probably get the diode and the module for half that. Doesn't look like a bad deal, but you can get cheaper.

And 150mW is seriously pushing it for those diodes. Something more like 100mW is safer.

yeah, that's certainly just the diode from an xbox 360 hd-dvd drive, pressed into an aixiz module...

you could get the same thing for ~$25 and five minutes work a couple weeks ago... suddenly it's getting a lot harder to find the drives for that cheap, though check on the buy/sell/trade board, people are occasionally selling off the harvested diodes here.

note that if you buy this you'll still need to provide a driver for it, which is either $3-10 worth of parts and some electronics know-how or $10-$20 on the buy/sell/trade board.

I'd leave the board on as well...no harm it living there :)

Looks like false advertising to me. >:(

Max Current = 110mA should only outputs ~90mW.

I'm going by Craig Johnson's test on these diodes. Measured 137mW @ 90mA no optics.

He's advertising the pulsed output to make it sound more impressive. You can easily drive an LD to twice the CW output (depending on the LD) if it's pulsed. What the PHR-803T was designed to operate at is less than what you guys are driving them at. I suppose it's possible to get 150mW out of them CW but you'd need a massive cooling system to keep it from vaporizing. Plus, unless any of the "Chinese" suppliers comes up with a licensing agreement from the original manufacturer I wouldn't expect the knockoff diodes to perform at stellar outputs or have a long lifetime.

Fortunately, based on the description, these diodes were pulled from drives, not replacement sleds so they are all probably OEM diodes.

Congrats on the high output but as I said these are being driven way beyond the design parameters. The OEM diodes are built to much better standards than the knockoffs. I don't suspect a knockoff diode would survive that.

Wait... So the sleds were buying from these suppliers like in the GB section. are weaker than if you pulled them from a drive at geeks.com? what????
 
These are most likely the diodes from the DT0811 sled. I took the can off of a few of mine and they look identical to the ones pictured. 130mW with NO OPTICS at 90mA sounds about right to me, albeit on the edge of overpowering. The auction may make the diode seem a bit stronger than it is, but I don't think its too far off. 8-)

To what are you referring? I don't see anything open can in this thread.

So, which would be the knockoffs? the 0811? Aren't all 803Ts OEMs?
