Animals and lasers

My pseudo-scientific lasers-with-animals tests involving a 5mW green:

Dog: Sees it. Knows what it is and where it comes from. Doesn't do anything.
Cat 1: Likes to stare at it, but doesn't do much more.
Cat 2: Ignores it. Doesn't even look.
Parrotlets: Don't do anything.
Cockroaches: Sometimes try to avoid the light.
Giant millipede: Doesn't do anything.
Leopard geckos: Don't do anything.
Wild rabbit: Doesn't do anything.
Sparrows: Get very excited and try to eat it.
Crows: Run away and caw.
Seagull: Scared the hell out of it, flew about 500 feet away!
Spider: Followed it for a bit, then ignored it.

More to come as I encounter more animals!

spiders go crazy over my modded dilda. probably because i keep pointing it at them ;D (spider season... kinda. huge ones everywhere... impossible to kill... need higher powered one...)

my cat will run at and bat my red laser (and old cheap 2mw red) like its going to play with it, but within a few seconds she just doesn't see it at all and acts like nothing happened.

out camping at a park, the tame deer came by and i had my dilda, i was pointing it at the ground and it would sometimes see it and move away a little. pointing it at its side would get it to wag its tail at it like it was a fly (it looked to that side and saw the dot)

my bearded dragon will chase the laser like its food haha.

this one night me and some friends were sitting in my car chatting before a friend had to go, and the neighbors cat was walking in from my 11 with the most serious look and posture, like it was going to kill us. but never fear i whipped out my dilda and got it in focus and pointed it at the ground outside, my god that cat went crazy chasing it for a while.
it was funnier than it sounds. now i try to keep it in my car for random cat encounters.

I've noticed that wild street cats either ignor the dot, or flee from it, as domestic ones usually chase it.

Turkeys don't really do anything if they see a laser, ducks like lasers though:

look at my signature, i have a 200mw red, a 140mw blu-ray and a 30mw green, i don't think power is the problem!

My Jack Russel goes crazy no matter what color the dot is. My Dacshunds and my Lab/Greyhound mix couldn't care less about laser lights.

Im sure if you point them a 10watt  green laser they will react!  put them laser goggles at least!

Most of the time with a higher power laser, they won't react because they don't want to look at something that hurts their eyes.

Also, you have to remember that alot of these breeds aren't bred for prey drive.

Why do many of you get so worked up about goggles for yourself but don't even give a second though to damaging the eyes of animals? Would YOU stare at the dot of a Dilda?

If you read my first post correctly the first time, you would have seen that I am careful to never shine into their eyes. I shine a dot on the ground and move it towards them and note their reaction to the dot!

Yes, but when burning with a Dilda, do you wear goggles? I mean, you don't point the laser at your eyes.

It'd have to be pretty tightly focused - if it didn't diverge after a few feet you'd scorch the walls
