Finally got around to building this beast...

Solid Copper Tùng Laser Host
NUBM44 Laser Diode in 12mm Copper Module
Multi-Function Driver:
- Group 1: Lo(5%) > Med(40%) > Hi(100%)
- Group 2: Lo(5%) > Med(40%) > Hi(100%) > Strobe > Beacon
Sanwu X3 Beam Expander (Painted Copper)
2 Element Collimation Lens (Works Best I've Found w/ BE)
Illuminated Side Switch (White)
Reverse-Clicky Tail-Switch
Requires 2x 26650 Lithium Batteries
Weights Approximately 3 Lbs 12 Ozs (1710 Grams)
Over 12" Long (310mm)
Shined w/ Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish
Protected w/ Renaissance Wax Microcrystalline Polish
This pointer is a monster! By far the nicest I've built.

Beam Shot <-----------

I need to get a better video when it's a little lighter outside.

You might want to consider coating it in acrylic to keep it from tarnishing. I have some copper hosts done that way and they stay bright and shiny.

Doesn't the wax need to be reapplied from time to time? With a clear coat you only have to do it once.

HMMMMmm ??? Does this Acrylic coating....Spray On ??? Maybe....But...If it chips off....do you just spray on again ???
I could live with an annual spray touch up !!!

SO....as Copper Hosts gain in Popularity....a coating solution is a needed !!! Maybe this has already been explored….I have NOT taken the time to search our Form !! ??:mad:

Hi CD, you're right, the topic of copper coating has been discussed in various threads in the past. I just looked up "coatings for copper" and some of the previous threads came up.

I've used both polishes and and acrylic sprays in the past, and found both work well; I've found that some spray finishes will change the color a bit, but nothing bad.

A great polish, and the one I use is "Mothers", found in auto supply stores or in the auto section of many other stores.

Edit: @Schmackitup, that is one beautiful copper laser you've got there, what a monster, I'm jealous! :)

Absolutely incredibly beautiful copper host. Brasso(polish) works with copper great and leaves a slight wax coating to keep in shiny a while. A clear coat would or could look blotchy with time and be a pain to remove or redo. Sealing off the end to protect the diode and lense being a priority after building I would think. Now anyone consider plating? I'm in upstate ny and there is a plating outfit in Elmira NY, ill go get their info. Copper plates really easy and can be plated with everything from silver to gold and palladium. If you request triple plating it will never wear off. It isnt expensive either depending. Not sure how plating helps with heat however and I assume raw copper would shed heat better then plated copper (I'm assuming). But again, just glorious work on that host!
