AixiZ modules and me

I am starting my first DIY red laser build (thanks for the inspiration, Dave!) and have a question. What's the best way to force the AixiZ module into submission and get it to surrender the 5mW diode so I can replace it with a real (20x open can) diode? It seems press-fitted, but it's wedged in there pretty well.

I just use a small punch and a tack hammer to get them out. I have no use for a 5mW red diode/driver.

Peace,
dave

Like Dave said, just hammer it out from the lens side. If you want to keep it useable, I dont know how you would go about doing that then.

My method also destroys the diode inside, wrapping cloth around the top part of the module, hold it tightly with pliers that grip in a circle, then using smaller needle nose pliers to pop the diode out. A vice and hammer sounds easier, but if all you got is pliers this is a method that works too.

To avoid damaging the module do not grip it in a vice, just open the jaws enough to allow the LD and driver to drop through and sit the module on top, then drive it out....or you can try this (if the LD is in too tight it may distort the back of the module if you wind the vice closed too hard which is why I use a piece of suitably sized tube).....

Find an old rc antenna and take it apart to find the tube JUST big enough to fit around the can of the diode. You can then use it to press it out of the housing perfectly unharmed.
