i got my aixiz modules today. i turn them on with the original diodes and on the wall i get a strange kindf bold line coming out of the module. i dont know whats wrong. it does it with both of them

Even after you tried focusing it? If so, you might've bought one with a line-generating lens of sorts, instead of a dot-generating one.

Try focusing it. Turn the lens left or right with the laser on. Observe what the "line" does. These cheap modules use a horizontal chip so the unfocused light is VERY elongated. The "line" may turn into a bright dot somewhere along the way. The pictures below are from the same Sure module. Your aiXiz's should be the same type of chip.

I don't really get it when you say "a strange line coming out of the module" do you mean a line like what daguin posted or a line that goes through the dot of the laser? If it's the line that goes through the dot then it's perfectly normal, all DVD burner diodes have that line.
Here's what it looks like:

If the module has a silver focusing ring on it, remove that ring - the line generating optic will be under that, right in front of the lens. Careful when removing the lens - you don;t want to lose the little spring that is in there.....

thanks daguin that did the trick! i just have to adjust focusing for different lasing distances. how do the pointers work that are focused at any distance?

You're welcome.

For long distances, you just have to think about how the light is coming out of the lens. When the light comes out of the lens it is in the shape of a long skinny "cone". The smallest possible dot is where the pointy end of the cone is. At that point the edges of the cone cross (the point of convergence) and start to spread out to make the cone larger again. It is kind of like an hourglass, but long an skinny. Right now you have the "dot" focused to probably 10-12 feet. If you focus the dot out to 30 feet, the cone doesn't get any wider coming out of the lens, it just gets longer. Now focus the point out to 100 feet. Your cone is now so long and skinny that it "looks" like it is just a straight line. It's not, but it looks like it is. You will hear us refer to that as focused to infinity. Of course it's not to infinity, but it means that it is too far out to see the converging point (the pointy end of the long skinny cone)

Now if you want to use the laser as a pointer or to use the beam to show a direction, you want it focused to infinity. That way you have the longest skinniest beam you can have. However, if you want to burn something, you need to have the point of convergence (the pointy end) at whatever distance you want to burn stuff at (12 inches, 3 feet, 20 feet, etc. ) so you are concentrating the energy of the light into a small a space as possible

dave

I had the same problem on mine i took apart lens and blew in it and put it back together and it worked. (P.S. watch out for the spring it can sometimes pop out) :)

Re: AixiZ module help Focusing

I have two of these with the black plastic lens assembly and the silver outer ring. Any tips on how to get the black part not to rotate after focusing when I put the sliver back on or is it kinda luck and trial and error? Also are there any better lens assemblies than the Aixiz? Yea I know, I haven;t really searched the forum yet but I will right now...

Thanks! Jules

If you are using the silver "focus ring" then attach it to the lens assembly permanently. Put a little drop of glue where the threads screw into the focus ring. Actually, I just screw it onto the threads tightly. I have never had one come loose. Then screw the lens back into the module. Now you focus the lens by twisting the focus ring instead of the black plastic.

Thanks Dave! I will do that. Ummm I believe you were the one who told me I would be ordering more HD-DVD drives and well. YOU were right LOL!

What I have done on my blue rays is to find the focus point amd gauge how far from the module the chrome ring is, remove the lens assembly again and wind the chrome ring down the lens to where you noted.....

Repeat this until the ring locks against the front face of the module with it in perfect focus.  It is a nice way to ensure that the lens doesn't move if you carry your laser around in your pocket.
