after recharging the batteries my diode blow-up






How do you combine this sink with the round Aixiz module ?

today i recieved a new dvd burner and after i set up everything and set the current to max 250mA. but first i set the pot to max value "105ohm". connected the laser diode and as soon as i set the mA to 250ma the diode died. ??????

Looks like i will have to make a new driver and buy new batteries.
its the 4th dvd burner already. what a waste of money.

I could buy a laser pen for ~60$ but i will never get it to my home because of the customs.
 
If your LM317 Circuit is okay the batteries are definitely not the Problem you can put 10V in the LM317 he doesn't care ... Worst Case Thermal Shutdown but nothing like kill the LD !!!
I think the Problem is either to much heat or over driven diode !
The LPC 826 can handle up to 400mA and more well what diode do you have ?

Are the LPC 826 LD in dvd burners? or you get them by buying them?
I have seen a site selling those kind of LD but they only accept paypal.
I don't trust paypay anymore because they blocked my account for no reason.
and made my ~100$ useless.
 
dont use 2 x 3.7 batterys buy 3.6 that couldve been what burnt it out too much voltage 3.6 covers 7.2 volts.

........This guy has yet to make one informed suggestion in this thread.


I don't remember the recommended current for the 16x diodes, bit I do know they are sensitive. They can't be man handled like 445nm diodes and still work.

Can you post a picture of your driver and wiring set up for us to see?

If everything is wired and set correctly, your batteries are not the problem. Doesn't matter if you have 2 or even 3 lithium, the driver should regulate the current.

You're mistaken. The charger is to blame for any case of overcharging.

the power will be stronger and blow it out...

I also did a bit of research and read it needs 7.2 Volts now if they listed the max voltage which could be 7.2 | the batteries you bought are 3.7 volts 2 x 3.7 batteries = 7.4 you could've just over powered it. next time buy 2 x 3.6 ultra fire batteries

Please continue your research and this time include the term "constant current."
 
I have a interesting question:

Does the diodes in DVD bruners 16x that are ~6years old heat up much faster on 250mA than this brand new diode:

One guy said he was running his LPC-815 LD on much higher current to get an high output power and the diode doesn't get hot before 2-3mins running without a heatsink:

Compared to my first made DVD laser burner from a LD made in 2006 that gets hot after 30sec running with a small heatsink attacked on it.

If this is the case i may just buy the LPC-826 diode so i don't have to worry much about overheating.

A safe current for the LPC 826 is 350mA and 400mA max with good heat sinking !
I'm sure the diodes of old 16xDVD Burners are not the LPC 826 !
Just order a LPC 826 to be sure you're getting the right diode
 
Yeah i will do. because maybe the DVD burner diodes weren't made to run at 250mA or even more.

But i don't want to use paypal because they banned my mastercard number on paypal and made the money i got left on my paypal account useless and they don't want to unban me. IDK my account was verified :(

so i searched on ebay.co.uk and found the same LD:

Are those diodes good or not?

I would suggest an LPC-826 as well. That price isn't bad on the ebay link. I would say that's a much better bet than an unknown diode out of an old DVD burner. You won't ever be killing one of those with 250mA if your heatsinking is done correctly.
 
Had no time in the past 3 days but I managed to make a heatsink for my module.
here is the screenshot:

the LD is not in the module because I need to wait for my ordered LPC 826 to arrive.
Would this heatsink be capable to run LPC 826 LD at ~370mA for a short duration or I need a bigger heatsink?.
 
The sink is good. Actually the size of the sink doesn't matter. You need to remove the heat from the sink. The sink is just a medium to move the heat from the diode to the host.
 
The size of the heatsink and grade of its material effects how well of a buffer it acts as though. it also effects how quickly it can move the heat and how much it can store. Generally from my exp is the actual heat dissipation of the host is generally far too low to properly cool the heatsink and diode. Which is why we much duty cycle them as the heatsink will slowly gather more heat until it becomes too hot and you must turn it off and let the heat dissipation ability of the host catch up. So going with this I would say the heatsink volume matters a ton since the bigger and more heat it can store and the longer you can run your laser at a time.

Not trying to contradict you Blord, its only my opinion based off my observations.
