Hi all,

Can anyone guess why does he need this extra mirror?
Why he doeen't just focus the laser module directly to the galvo's mirrors?

Thanks.

He could but the laser is in it's final position now as it will be when he is finished and has a few more lasers in there and more mirrors and dicros.
so he would have to drill extra mounting holes to mount the laser with out the mirror that he won't use later.

If you build a single color scanner, then no, you will not need extra mirrors (if you have the space for fit the laser) ..... but if you plan to add, also in the future, other colors, then you need more space (larger case), or a different beams geometry, or the extra mirror (like in the pics).

EDIT: also, the extra mirror can help you in solving some alignment problem, if the scanner entry mirror and the module are not perfectly on the same plane ;)

ok ;)

Sure, for alignment it may help, but it seems that guy has fixed all parts and he aligned it by sticking the galvo block over that aluminium segment, before the glue (or whatever he's used) got dry.

those photos being of my projector, the layout is so i can add other colours.

when you build a projector you will understand why adjustable mirror mounts are used/needed

It is difficult to adjust the position, height, and angles of a large laser head.

It is easy to adjust the position of a mirror on an adjustable holder

Also, sometimes through impact, or heat something will change positions.

Just as in the above situation, it is MUCH easier to re-adjust a mirror than a laser.

Peace,
dave

Adjustment is a good argument. If you plan on adding more lasers you could still position one laser such that it has a continous path to the galvos, and put the others at 90 degree angles with their dichros. The whole device would be a bit bigger, but thats all.

The ease of alignment is probably worth the 10% loss in power the mirror causes.
