A Guide To Buying Your First Green Laser

I think Ive decided to go with the 1W so switching threads...
One last question - what exactly is WL using in their 200mw green laser that makes it so cheap and still have 200mw output power? Do you think they will have a 300mw that also has a low price one day or is their emitter only capable of 200 and wont be increasable? I just don't really understand why its so cheap and I'm wondering if they have some technology no one else has.

Which laser is the cheap one you're talking about? I'm not sure which and I don't have time to check every one of their products and the pricing.

I meant the E3 series green laser 200mw. Other 200mw greenies cost a fortune, and I don't think the low cost is only because of no infrared filter. I never see any information on this laser, if its really 200mw and only $80 I want it.

I don't know, but that is a laser pen. And if the output peaks at 200mW, then plummets down to less than 100 due to heat, WL would probably sell it as 200mW.

Sorry, I'm a little confused by some things you wrote... Do you have $200 or $300 to spend? And you say you want a pen style, but you're considering the O-like torch? The torch is a lot bigger than a pen style, in case you didn't know. I'm assuming this one.

And about the 2000m beam, I don't think any laser will give you that. Yeah the light might travel that far, but even with a low divergence the spot would be huge, and possibly not even visible.

The Nova Endeavor is a very nice choice, but if your budget is at $300 you couldn't afford one. Here's my recommendation: for a lower quality laser, look at the 150mW+ pen from optotronics.com. Opto does have nice pens, but the quality isn't as good as the more expensive CNI lasers. For a less powerful, but better quality laser, look at any of the following:

X100 Compact Portable >100mW Laser - X-Series - Novalasers Inc.

Viper Series 125mW Green Laser Pointer :: Green Laser Pointer ----- 532nm Laser ----- Viper Series Lasers :: Handheld Lasers :: Dragon Lasers

My personal recommendation of these is the Viper, but take a look at all of them.

That viper host sucks, unless they have changed it, it is loose and falls apart easily, the button shorts and rarely operates correctly and the lens has terrible imperfections. I recommend the nova or opt. one.
