Alright I'm back with another great shiny Jayrob kit. This is the Stainless Steel C3. It runs of a single 14500 and is ideal for a 405 or medium power 445 builds.

I chose to go with a 12X 405nm diode that I harvested out of a Lite On Blue Ray burner. The Lite On Sled is available from Rayfoss for $69 shipped.LINK
Or you can find it in one of the group buys for a little less.

I have pushed these diodes as high as 900mW.:eg: For a bench test see here.LINK

This host looks like a mini me of the SS 18650 that I reviewed.LINK And just a tad bigger than the SS 10440.LINK

Here is the look of this beautiful host.:D

This unit has a green glow in the dark clicky.

Here is a size comparison.

As you can see I like shinny things.:p

Alright this kit comes with these three components. A Heatsink(Copper or Aluminum), a drilled out pill and the host body.

I also opted for the copper module.

If you get the hot kit from Jay the driver will be premounted in the pill with the current set. All you will need to do is press a diode into the module and solder the connections from the driver. For a walkthrough on how to do this check this link.http://laserpointerforums.com/f51/tutorial-3405-build-tips-50930-2.html#post754769

Once you have all your wires connected then you are ready to put together this unit. This part seems to have caused a certain individual some trouble. But it actually is very hassle free.

You want to screw the pill and the heatsink into the head as one piece so they do not turn independently possibly twisting the wires.

You have a few options.
Jay sells a special tool for this.

SS%2018650%2013.jpg

But I have a simple way of doing that works very well. Get two sockets and use them to pinch the heatsink and the pill together and place in a vice.

Or you could just use a large set of pliers but I would suggest the vice.

Once this is nice and tight you are all but ready to burn baby burn.

Now you will need a lens and a battery to complete the unit. I went with Jays 405-G-1 with the EzFocus adapter and an AW 14500 battery.

And now you are ready to go.:eg:

And now the best part of a review. The beamshots.
(sorry my new camera makes 405 look like 445)

And last but not least an LPM test. I set it to a modest 730mW.:eg:

Thanks for reading my review hope everyone enjoyed it.

That's a nice line-up. I can't distinguish between 405 & 445.

I got my new camera yesterday and 405 and 445 are coming out the same. It is a Olympus E-PL1 and I am thinking there is an option to correct this but I have not messed with that yet. Does take great pics tho.:D

Another fine review and another fine build. I like these stainless hosts. Must put one on my, 'to do', list!

What current did you set your MicroBoost to achieve your, 'modest', 730mW?

I originally had it set at 600mA but decided I wanted it to last so I kicked it down to 560mA.;)
