Alright folks here is my newest toy. As always thanks Jay for the great host:beer:
This thing is really compact and clips onto the inside of a pocket very nicely. Almost forget that I am carrying it around it is so small. Yet it is powerful as well.

I was looking at doing a small 445 build. At first I was looking at the keychain 10280 but then I saw the SS 10440.
I wanted to be able to have around 500mW power so this seemed a better fit. This host gives a great pen style feel with a little more heat dispensation capabilities than your average pen host.
I am not going to get too in depth on the assembly of this unit but here is a quick overview.
When it arrived I received these parts.
Jay does offer a copper module but he did not have any that would be ready before his camping trip so I opted to just go with the aluminum and get the copper module later.
Here is how the driver fits in this very tight host.
You can check here if you want to see how to press the diode into the module and solder it. LINK
This part seems to have caused a certain individual some trouble. But it actually is very hassle free.
You want to screw the pill and the heatsink into the head as one piece so they do not turn independently possibly twisting the wires.
You have a few options.
Jay sells a special tool for this.
But I have a simple way of doing that works very well. Get two sockets and use them to pinch the heatsink and the pill together and place in a vice.
Or you could just use a large set of pliers but I would suggest the vice.
I tweaked the pot till I got as close to 500mW without going under. Since the pot is very sensitive the closest I got was just above 550mW.
I have both 405-G-1 lens and a 405/445 Aixiz lens in use for this unit. Also I am using one of Jay's custom focus nobs and it fits this host quite well.
And here is the finished product.
Here is a size comparison with the Beast and my 12X SS C3. As you can see it is quite a compact unit.
And now what I know you have been waiting to see. Beam shots.
Here is a shot without smoke but they are just not as much fun.
I really did not expect this to be a burning monster but I must say that it does quite well.
Here it is burning through a cd case.
Here it is boring holes through the thick plastic of a cd stack holder.
And Finally here is the power test. Ran for a little over 2 minutes but turned it off because the unit was getting pretty hot. I think I will give this unit a 60 second duty cycle to be on the safe side.
Final Notes.
This is very compact unit that still provides all the beam visibility that I was looking for and as a bonus it burns very well. I am looking forward to seeing what the copper module does for the heat generated by this unit. I Love the stainless steel look and it is a great little brother to my Beast. It is a very tight little package that can be carried with ease and the clip allows for a pen like feel.
Jay you have outdone yourself again:beer:
Hope you all enjoyed my review on the SS 10440 Jayrob host. If you want to know more you can visit Jay's SS 10440 page LINK.
PS Jay also offers an option for an EzFocus adapter that is sized the same diameter as the host.
And he also offers the Custom Focus Knob I am using that can allow you to use a dust cap to keep your lens clean.
