6x BluRay VS Steel Wool, Fog and Lasers

Thats a cool one, man your hosts always look so mean [smiley=evil.gif]

What mW is it putting out? Specs, please...? ::)

WannaBurn - The bluray in the steel wool video uses a 6x diode and was set up to produce 175mW of output. (Tested on Lasercheck) It uses an LM317 driver and is powered by 3 x CR123 rechargeables. The host is custom machined and clear anodized for scratch and wear protection. There is no aixiz housing, I machined the whole head. Lens nut is brass and does not have the aixiz "wiggle" when adjusting the focus. The lens is uncoated acrylic. I'll post some better shots of this laser soon in the bluray section of the forum.

i have the same fog machine..... does it work good for lasers ?

and very nice looking :o

Is there a trick to the steel wool? I tried this @ 210mW and get nothing, just reflections. Did you Sharpie the steel wool? :-? It doesnt appear that way, all the same its left me scratching my head :-/

Your laser is probably outputting more, because Laserchecks do not pick up 405nM light properly (they are optical meters).
Did you make the lens nut yourself?

WannaBurn - The trick is to use extra fine steel wool, it lights up very easily. Get some. it's almost like a cotton ball and your laser will roast it right up. It impresses people when they see your laser "burning steel".

Spyderz20x6 - I made the lens nut myself from brass rod stock.

jake21 - This little fog machine works great for lasers.

It just takes a couple of shots from the machine once the green light comes on, and laser beams become extremely visible.

I have two of these fog machines, but black. They are pretty nice, but the fog tends to drift up toward the ceiling and dissipate pretty quickly when it's cold in my garage.

Nice job on the 6X- as always, your builds impress me... and make me want a lathe and milling machine.

heh yeah i got one recently and was unprepared at the amount of fog these things shoot out! i ended up filling up the whole house

Mohrenberg - Your machine has a trigger button, does it not? To fill your house you must have leaned on the trigger! ;D Bet you had fun shooting lasers all over the house! The fog does come out dense and tends to spread ... I try to keep it confined by shutting doors, helps a bit.

That has to be the best liquid sky I have ever seen! :D
Agree'd.

I've got a fog machine, but it only puts out fog once every ~half hour. You can't control it, either. It's really cheap, and it's pretty much broken.

I have the same one in the video, but it has a terrible leakage problem, and the cardboard box we keep it in is soaked in less than a week after it gets used... But it was only 10 bucks. ;D

I am very envious of you :o! I love your wide range of lasers (especially the time tunnel you made with your green laser), but I also watched your other vid's. I have been working on building a 12000 volt generator with a neon transformer (I hope it will be as nice as yours) and I absolutely love your tesla coil. I think we share two main interests: lasers and high-voltage electricity! 8-) ;D
