574nm 36 mW Yellow Laser

I got a message from Freeman saying he shipped out a couple dozen but is waiting for more as getting stable units is difficult, he expects more to come.

I am not in a hurry, I really want about a 1/4 watt, at least 100mw and they will come in time, in time we will see directs, directs do exist but are also inefficient, but that's how it goes as they evolve.

I also don't care much for desk top ( Lab ) lasers, I prefer portables, but a module can be fitted to a portable housing easily enough, but having a stable reliable unit would be nice, I wonder about the longevity of these inexpensive dpss 565/575 units.

Only time will tell. I have increased my lasers current by 500 mA over what it was originally pulling. Used a larger heat sink on the output transistor and also found that a small fan moving at half speed is enough to keep the driver from over heating. The module still runs cool as its fan is more than enough to carry away the excess heat. Need to remeasure the power as I still haven't gotten around to dong that since making these changes.

Modifying/replacing the PS is no big deal, but I wonder about these inexpensive crystals, Freeman said the supply issue is in getting stable units....but you gave the correct answer, only time will tell.

Paul,

Yea, I'm in a mood this week on lots of stuff, but didn't expect a bite from anyone in particular. Looking forward to 100 mw, hope!

Did anyone got any of the units within the past weeks? Just asking as OPT tells the units become available next week... and next week... and next week... and so on. Strange kind of doing business.

Not strange at all ---they are a manufacturer not a reseller.
They sold the initial small sample production units they had in stock and are having production and quality problems at the moment due to components supplied from an outside vendor. They are preventing business problems by not releasing faulty unstable product.

Presumably, they will resume taking orders and delivering product when and if they successfully and cost effectively resolve those problems.

Now they know that they have a market, they will want to restock asap. Like Encap said, they are not resellers. They do the production. It only takes one part to slow down or halt production.

I know we would all like these to be available now, but they are a new DPSS laser design and there are going to be hiccoughs along the way. Eventually these will likely be as ubiquitous as 532nm lasers, but we will have to be patient. I am looking forward to a 150+ mW 575nm one as these lower power ones are still awesome to have. Since buying the stuff I got from OPT Lasers, I now get more frequent Alibaba Spam to my email.

Do you guys think Opt lasers will try to refine this 575/565 DPSS process if they keep seeing more orders for this item? Possibly reduce their cost of production along with producing a higher quality product?

Stable 575/565 100mW+ lasers would be awesome! :D

If you order inflatable dolls, Andrew, you have to take the underwear and $ex toy spam that comes with them.

Only time will tell, Alex. I don't expect to get another $30.00 yellow laser though.
