505nm and 480nm diode RESULTS

Bad news. :( These are SB147EB91s, every single one of them. They have a different pin out than the case positive ones. In fact they are the same as the SB147EC91s that DTR has. I measured one and it was 505.9nm at threshold. That could very well be a low one as the EC91s were closer to 510nm. :yabbem:

I'm afraid so, Joey. The only good thing is their case is neutral, so won't need a weird driver to drive them. But, so far they are not low wavelength diodes. Seem to be higher than 505nm.

But the Wl of the SB147EB91's is lower than the C91's that DTR sells?

It seems most people here are looking for as low a wavelength as possible. I however am looking for as close to 505nm as possible. Are people on a cyan quest or something?

I'd love to see more results from those SB147EB91s.

Me too, I'm looking forward to get some 505nm or as close as possible with a case neutral diode other than DTR's C91's.

Well I can assure you I don't plan on keeping all 10 of mine as decorative metal desk pieces so once Paul finishes his measurements I'd be happy to arrange a sale. Otherwise I wasn't just going to jack the price up a bit and try and snag unsuspecting eBay buyers >:) (only sort of kidding).
 
I do particularly want as close to 500nm as possible. The colour is unique and rare to get hold of. Also it’s colour difference is very noticeable without the need of a 520nm to compare. A cyan quest will be around 490nm. To far out for these diodes.

Btw 505nm is the color of 'traffic light green LED' in The Netherlands. Every traffic light build after 2008 has a few hundred of those LEDs, but they are deceptively difficult to obtain as a consumer. One shop that ceased long ago had 10 in stock for me (labeled 'Aqua, 505nm), and when I put one in the spectrometer recently it was 505nm bang on.
 
how much would you ask for a 505 case neutral one? it seems these case positive ones are going to be slightly more annoying to drive than I had anticipated.
 
I've been looking for a driver for a continuous negative diode CC driver, I believe a Micro-Flexdrive as many others, will drive either case positive, or case negative, if you isolate the battery from the case, or the diode, but does anyone know where I can get a driver which doesn't care?

I only had time to measure the first of those ten diodes and it was at threshold current. It was as close to 506nm as one can get without actually hitting it. I think these might be the same as the diodes DTR sells. Will try to measure more today so we will know for sure.
 
I know it is a double post, but have news.

Was able to measure 7 of your 10 diodes. In the order of being measured they are: 505.9nm, 506.0nm, 506.5nm, 505.9nm, 508.0nm, 506.6nm, and 506.4nm. Still have three to go, but you can get a good idea from these.
 
It will depend on how well it is heat sinked. In a pen build, yes it will heat up and increase in wavelength. At lower currents and heat sinked well, not so much.

Also, to answer Alaskan's question, the Blitz Linear driver from SL is continuous positive and can be used to drive these case positive diodes without isolation. They are adjustable from ~120 mA up to ~400mA in the low current mode. It takes two Li-ion batteries to get it above the 6.8 VDC it needs to drive these diodes, though.
