505nm and 480nm diode RESULTS

That would make more sense then. What was the wavelengths @ 125mA on the C91's that were tested?


Between 508nm and 509nm. The SB1473N91 that I have for myself spec'd at 502nm. Laserman121 had these same numbers and his spec'd about 502nm to 503nm, IIRC.
 





Fingers crossed that the SB1573N91's are 505. Still pretty pricey knowing that these cost them $12 each at most and that their near $40 price tag is for the bare diode.
 
If anyone is planning on buying that diode and wants to know what it will really do, I'll be happy to measure them with my spectrometer. It's mainly what I got it for.

Great, Brad. I'm looking forward to finding out what the exact WL is on this diode at rated power as it may be a totally different one than the two I've seen so far.

I know there saying these diodes are sharp but I was going threw spec sheets and found this nichia spec sheet very similar to the diode 473 I'm sure there are others too but this one seems very close! Anyway I have a spectroed 477 at 300ma on its way to me and I'm giving it a 500ma nano and I'm sure it will be just fine!

That Nichia has a photo diode in it. I don't think they are the same as the case pin was just that. You are more brave than I was because I never pushed one of these past 350 mA. I have the nano boost driver that can be set to 500 mA, but plan on trying to get 350 mA out of it instead.

They are cheap and I bought a few and with one at 477 I'm sure to get very close to 480 at 500ma should be a lovely cyan can't wait, also can't wait to see 505 in person, Some spec sheets show 505 diodes vary from 502-508 witch would explain all the different readings but none were over 510 were they!

Don't count on that diode making it to 480nm as all ten of the ones I tested stopped increasing in WL after 250 mA. The highest one I saw was 478nm, and that was at 250mA , though I did increase it to 350 mA.
 
I ordered my 505! Super excited for this wavelength. Call it a coincidence but first I purchased the Surefire X400 pistol laser/light that specs call out a 505 diode. Cost me an arm and a leg.
I'm still over seas atm but I return to the US Monday I'll do some beam shots. I ordered a diode from DTR so I can compare the surefire and this diode in the op.

Well keep in mind diodes don't emit a single wavelength (generally speaking) and are all unique unlike an SLM DPSS or something. They have a very wide curve and the center WL is just a typical measure. They often have to be adjusted and fine-tuned. And especially on small wide range spectrometers like yours paul, they can be off measurement by quite a fair bit, and they do drift with time. I'm actually looking at getting a few of these myself and putting them on my high-resolution one. I'm betting there's a quite a discrepancy between each one.

I'm certainly open to anything you can tell me about them. I know they aren't a single WL. No typical diode is. I've been taking the peak values of each one. If you have more information about them, especially the center WL of several, that would be awesome.

Now, if you are talking about the so called 480nm diodes I found a 4nm range in the ten I spec'd. The 505nm ones depend a great deal on which ones you get. They have been off by more than 8nm.

Well. Friday I managed to kill all of my drivers on hand trying to set up for my 480nm diode... I'd like to blame that on a bad soldering iron/setup. Ordered a nano driver from DTR so hopefully next weekend I can have something to show.

I've shipped out all of the diodes I sold to my buyers. There's still one more person I'm waiting on, but I'm not sure he'll follow up or not. I'll make a thread in the B/S/T for the remaining diodes when I know what his deal is (or next Saturday. Whatever comes first)
 
I'm glad I still have a microboost drive in my possession for when my diode makes it to me. I see now that there are no longer any sources for these things.
