505nm and 480nm diode RESULTS

Hey, DTR, I am wondering: what current do you have the X-Drives set to for the 505nm modules on your shop?

I don't think anyone is quite there yet. Jordan said he was going to make a graph of the power vs current which should help in deciding where you may want to set the current on either of these diodes. I have more testing to do today, so I will have more results later on.

Just have to add, loving the last 4 pages of this thread.:)
Kudos to everyone:beer:
Being a bit corny here but this brought back some spunk to forum;)

Yeah, there's nothing like a couple new diodes to get everyone working together toward a common goal. It has been fun.

Exactly:), and other claimed rare WL diode's that popped up before where either frauds and scams, miss prints, or just way way to expensive that after a while I just skimmed by the threads or didn't bother reading them anymore.
Nice work again to everyone and Paul i'm glad all worked out with the mail carrier "Jody". It funny how she has no clue to just how much pleasure she brought:whistle:
That was one close call!

Yeah, I had to call the post master at my post office to tell him how impressed I was with their honesty. I told him I intend on reporting him and the carrier that lied to me about where this diode had been delivered. I know it is wishful thinking, but hope to have his job. :banned:

Oh yes as you were treated awefull:mad:
Just find that fine line to just how far you might go?
Do you really want to risk further missing mail:whistle: You said it yourself, they can be scum and being that some P.O. workers are seasonal and with no benefits and claim low pay, you just never know. I do realize though your going to the top but something to think about:undecided:

They might just change your mail carrier to "Newman" from Seinfeld:eg:

6 more of these 505nm diodes are being spectrometered by CNI. Lets see the lowest wavelength these can hit. Also I've been told that the 480nm diodes are actually 476nm but we can never be sure without the datasheet.

That would make sense seeing as that seams to be right in the middle of the range we are seeing. Either was and awesome development for us.

Oh my..... I thought I was just about done with lasers but this... this is exactly what I was dreaming of the entire time I was in the hobby!! I may have to make some converted flashlight builds in the near future...

I'm not worried. My important mail is all tracked and I keep a very close eye on all of it. I'll have to sit on hold for 30 minutes some morning to talk with the postal inspectors, but they can't hurt me anymore than they have already. The fact that they lied to me to cover it up is more than I can let go by. If they had actually tried to find my mail instead of making excuses, I would have been alright with it.

How are the spots with these new diodes? Either make a line with the spot similar to the LPC826?

They have a rectangular shape as all diodes do, but it doesn't seem too bad. I've been measuring these for some other people as well as myself, but haven't put one in a host yet to look at the beam at a distance. I have to measure about 8 more tomorrow and could run a focused beam about 20 feet from my bench to see how they look. I finished doing 6 today.

I didn't say they are multi-mode diodes. They have a rectangular shaped emitter so it gives a somewhat rectangular beam. How much, I haven't checked yet.

Just some more spectrometer readings of these "480nm" diodes. 474.5nm, 477nm, 476.4nm, 476.8nm

Those are some pretty nice numbers even if shy of the 480nm they were sold as. Is that at recommended drive current or with a gentle nudge to red-shift them a little?
