500mw yellow laser HOW?

It was a metallic vapor (sodium) laser and it was constant yellow (insert military/national laboratory dramatic music here).

It's about $1 per mW that the diode pumps out. I honestly don't know what would be cooler, 500mW of yellow, or 50 MEGAWATTS of IR. Seriously, just think what you could vaporize with that (Including your $60 safety goggles :o)

the correct term would be "sublimate" ;D

I request pictures/video of the 500mW yellow in action ( I'm sure others will have the same request )

I've never been able to operate a high power yellow. 20mW is my personal best.

Why laugh? I'm confused.

because he retails 500mW yellows but has only operated 20mW ?

Can you think of the heatsinking you would need for 840W of diode power ?? :o

I guess I'm confused then. Is it somehow not believable that 500mW yellow lasers exist if I haven't operated one? I'll tell you what, you fork out the cash for a new one, I'll play with it and you can have it shipped to you as new.

I've operated very power laser systems from UV to IR but powerful 593s are new. If you think a company would expense a laser system to satisfy the curiosity of someone who has no intention nor the money to purchase a unit you are very wrong. I have a full scientific understanding of how laser systems operate and many years of experience and have no real need to turn on every laser system on the shelf to play with. The novelty factor has long since subsided.

If my credibility is somehow tarnished with you because I don't operate every laser we sell well, that's not my problem. The only credibility I'm concerned with is between me and my customers; you know the one's who pay my salary; the one's who give me a very comfortable living; the very same one's who can make such requests because their money talks. I'm sorry, you may not like it, but the laser industry is a business, where livelihoods are at stake. Costing and expense control are paramount to business operations. We don't waste money by playing with the lasers. When we get your order for a 500mW 593nm I'll take some pictures of me with your unit operating so you can have a warm fuzzy.

I'm sorry this is a bit harsh but I feel insulted. If my presence on this board seems to wreck the dynamic I have no problem leaving. I like helping out with REAL laser information without plugging our lasers every chance we get. But if my help is not appreciated so be it.

He's a child, Frothy.

Your input is very much appreciated here.

Peace,
dave

Sorry I know what you mean, your job is to sell lasers not to sit and play with them all day, I'm not saying that 500mW does exist, because I'm sure it does as you are selling it, you dont need to have operated it for it to exist, but anyway maybe I will fork out that cash in 20 years when the price has dropped significantly and the efficiency of the conversion process has improved, also by then I will be working so I will actually have enough money.

And of course Frothys input is appreciated, he is one of the most knowledgeable people on this forum when It comes to lasers, aswell as science in general, he always gives great in depth answers that you nearly always learn something from.
