488nm diodes price

True. And not saying you shouldn't. 488 in a handheld would be cool...but I just suppose That I consider it a waste of a good diode meant for science to stuff it in a tube, especially as they're notoriously fragile and need active cooling to last. I also can't justify the cost, as I can buy a lab laser at competitive cost that I can actually do something with, rather than just admire.

I don't think it would be a waste of a good diode. Probably, you are saying this because of all this big prices and a lack of popularity about 488nm diodes. I mean if there is another universe with these diodes $100 per unit, you wouldn't tell such words being in there :)
The cooling is the most big problem here I think. Just comparing the heat going from my 520 120mW diode, 488 can be far more hot. At this point I will suffer from inability to build a pen-styled pointer (though I love very tiny things).

Perhaps. But that's also because you've never seen one employed for 'proper' use. :) the last one I used was put in a custom tec and water cooled mount in a cubic head to be stabilized and circularized. :)

There are a few different versions of this diode. There is a SM and a MM one. Only the SM one is wavelength guaranteed. The MM ones are much cheaper, but naturally the beam suffers.

I got this quote from a banned member a few months ago about that n company. btw don't mention the name of the company in this thread, I put asterisks in to hide the identities of the diodes.

622nm 60mW: $600.

425nm 120mW: $ < 700.

Well, there are some news.
I found one supplier. The other ones are still not answering to my requests (including prophotonix). So, that supplier is located in my country, which is great at some point. Since there is a customs tax in the case of buying the diode from foreign suppliers, I decided to give it a try since the final cost is almost the same.
So, if everything will be fine, I would probably decide to create a new thread on the moment of receiving the diode, since this topic is not very suitable for such texting. Also, if those suppliers who decided to not answer yet will answer me later with some prices, I will post it here for people to know what is what now (though N!ch1a, Thorlabs and Prophotonix prices are already here).
And just a point of interest -- why everybody is masking that company? That one, the one which starts with "N". And is there another names I should mask too?

But looks cool indeed. Glad for you! Am I right that your GLP has a slightly more fat host than any other GLP pen? Also the brightness is pretty high for around 8mW.

It's the fat GLP which uses CR2 batteries, I wanted a regular GLP but CNI refused to do it for some reason. I can't complain :shhh:

It looks bright because the picture is overexposed, I took this shot in hurry so it's not the best settings I can do.

Is it pulsed or CW?
