445nm Lens Comparisons!

Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

No, no casio lenses in a metal nut. Working diligently to have everyone happy this week. Thank you to Jay for finding the QC issues, we are addressing these with the factory this evening.

Please, everyone, feel free to email or call us if you have questions.

Chuck

Casio projector lens in a metal nut??? thats funny!!!!;)--I showed Chuck one of the stock Casio lenses--first thing he said was==='hey I can put that in a metal nut and pass it off as a new lens!!!' J/K:crackup:

But Chuck--you did say something in this post about a suprise????

quote from Chuck last week ......'Here is our current production schedule:

On-hand 250 (most are committed)
Thursday 500 pcs ready
Saturday 500 pcs ready
Friday this week, 3000 pcs new red lens ready
Next Saturday additional 1500 pcs ready + a suprise'

end quote

Well Saturday was yesterday=== or did you mean NEXT Saturday???

So suprise us - already!!!:D

Len

ps thanks for driving half-way to deliver my lenses in person!!!:thanks:

Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

In the original pic (http://www.sonic.net/~jayrob/445 lens 4.jpg) you have the bigger dome side of the lens facing away from the diode, which does look more correct to me, but when I tried that I couldn't get my diode to focus (just using a 405 diode right now, don't have my driver for my 445 yet). I flipped the lens around and it can focus but it sure isn't pretty, and doesn't seem as bright as the Aixiz acrylic (though it could just be because it's got a lot more splash and was a bigger dot when I focused it.

When it's in the configuration in that picture, does it need to be really close to the diode? Would you recommend using an Aixiz module instead of a Sure module (what I have on my 405nm laser, it's not threaded to the very bottom like the Aixiz module)? Lastly, does that matter for the Aixiz 405/445nm lens, or does the projector lens just have an unusually short focal length? I'd just like to get my 445nm up and running in the mean time waiting for the Aixiz 445nm lens.

Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

Yes, the stock projector lens is a short focus lens that needs to be very close to the diode...

But it's not worth putting in there!

The AixiZ lenses should go into your Sure module and get focus easily. (guessing)

Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

Alright, thanks. All I've got at the moment is a glass lens coated for 650nm and a bunch of acrylic lenses, so I don't think any of those would be suitable on my 445nm build until I get a proper lens, which may be a while.

Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

I'm using the casio lens (only until tomorrow hopefully, it's been a long wait lol) and it's not that hard. It fits perfectly in the stock plastic lens nut.

I've tried a couple times to get the plastic lens nut out without damaging the threads, but I can't. I think all of mine are glued in.

I talked to AixiZ today on the phone and Chuck told me that he is expecting lenses tomorrow...

He says he needs to check these new ones to make sure that there is not a 'mixed batch' like my last order that I had to send back...

So hopefully, the issues are getting worked out, and well have easy access to more lenses from AixiZ.

If I get the correct ones, then I will have them available. As will AixiZ direct...

But I'll be checking them, because I'm not going to be selling them if the performance is not acceptable...

It's really simple-you know how on the standard plastic lens, there is that circular ring that faces the diode? Just pull that out, it holds in the lens and stuff.

I know, but I can't pull it out. Do you use pliers?

If you don't mind scratching the acrylic lens, you could use a small screwdriver to pry it out like this:

Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

I used the thin pliers on my leatherman... but it's really easy, just use a toothpick or something.

Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

I'm pretty sure mine is glued. I've been trying to get the nut out for the last 30 minutes with no success.

Edit, haha! I did it. I don't know why it was so hard though.

I got my new lens today. Here are comparisons with the one I got before:

Here with the 2nd lens unfocused you see this anomaly in the center of the dot. Is it supposed to be there?? It is unaffected by the focus and it is not dirt.

Last, I can hear the optics inside the nut rattle. I tighten the ring a little but I fear to break the optics.

Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

It's dust... If not on the outside surface, then it's in between...

The dust wouldn't bother me as bad, because at focus you will never see it. Nor would it make any difference in power. But it's not supposed to rattle. The ring is glued in place. It takes quite a bit of heat to loosen it. Pain as it is, you need a replacement...
