Actually the V5 flexdrive manual states current output as 1.5 amps, 5.5 volts. My digital amp meter read 896ma at the diode. As I mentioned it became very hot as to why I heat sinked it.
As with the Bluray, the V5 was not supposed to achieve 6volts. But in 3 cases mine would. DrLava must be sending me the good ones!
From the V5 Flex drive manual:
"Here are the
recommended output current ranges for the full 2.0-5.5V input range per output voltage:
75-400mA buck/boost 5V out
75-800mA buck/boost 3V out
75mA-1.5A 2.0V out with 4.2-3.0V in (li-ion)"
From a 4.2V battery, it can only boost to 1.5A @ 2V. It can only boost up to 400mA with 5V out.
If the driver were to "malfunction" I'm not sure what it would do, since I have never witnessed it, but IIRC some reported that their 12X diode was outputting a very different output power for it's input current than could be predicted based on several graphs of other diodes. I don't remember the owner's username, though.
It could very well be perfectly fine, though, since I don't remember hearing about any damage from the driver.
The important thing is that it works, and works well.
