Actually the V5 flexdrive manual states current output as 1.5 amps, 5.5 volts. My digital amp meter read 896ma at the diode. As I mentioned it became very hot as to why I heat sinked it.
As with the Bluray, the V5 was not supposed to achieve 6volts. But in 3 cases mine would. DrLava must be sending me the good ones!

From the V5 Flex drive manual:

"Here are the
recommended output current ranges for the full 2.0-5.5V input range per output voltage:
75-400mA buck/boost 5V out
75-800mA buck/boost 3V out
75mA-1.5A 2.0V out with 4.2-3.0V in (li-ion)"

From a 4.2V battery, it can only boost to 1.5A @ 2V. It can only boost up to 400mA with 5V out.

If the driver were to "malfunction" I'm not sure what it would do, since I have never witnessed it, but IIRC some reported that their 12X diode was outputting a very different output power for it's input current than could be predicted based on several graphs of other diodes. I don't remember the owner's username, though.
It could very well be perfectly fine, though, since I don't remember hearing about any damage from the driver.
The important thing is that it works, and works well. :)

So how hot are you noticing your build getting Kingdave?
Really hope this heatsink I have will be enough LOL

I am currently using the pyro maxsink, this baby is soo good it doesnt even get warm at all, infact it stays cool/cold to the touch! Before I hooked up the flexdrive, and had the rkcstr set to 434mA, I left it on for a good 10 minutes straight and it still wasnt warm! However, once I get it in the pocket mini, with the tiny little copper heatsink, I have a feeling I will have very short duty cycles at the current setting 666mA!!!! I may buy a jayrob 18650 kit for my build if the pckt mini gets to hot.....

This heatsink is so awesome, I may use it in a lab style build with another 445nm diode at an even higher setting, I have a project box that it fits in perfectly!!!

Ah ok. Let us know how it goes in the pocket mini.

:D445nm, 510mW In Jayrob 16850 Copper heatsink w/ Lava V5 - Unit works fine. Running only at 500mW, I have more diodes coming. Photos taken of unit and beamshots without smoke. Photos of building is 1/8th mile from back yard.

BTW - How many 445nm diodes are in the arrays in the casio projectors?

There are 24 diodes in each projector...
Nice looking build you have there:gj:

I didnt have time to build my pocket mini correctly, so I sent it out to pyro for a professional build, which should be arriving back this weekend!!! I will post some more pics when it arrives, V5 flex set to 700mA outputting 600mW running off a single CR123, which is probably limiting some current, but I will try my 3.7v 1300mAh batts when the laser arrives...

Okay guys, got my build back in from pyro today!! V5 flex at 700mA with an output of 600mW!! Its awesome laser build from a very professional member! Very bright, lights up the entire room with a deep blue blaze that looks epic in person! I am very happy with this build, and like my host better than the WL spider!

I wish mine would be done by a professional. i don't want to screw up in any way. =(
